Description Bryce 7.1 - Photoshop CS5 for minor postwork.

Dedicated to who loves to write some fine stories under her amazing works.

In an imaginary twin islands of about the size of Iceland, people coexist with mystery. There's only one bridge where one of the islands gets very close to the other along the Oblivion Straight. However, their geology is different, suggesting these were not formed in the same era. How can this possibly be?

When the first dwellers established centuries ago in what's now a very modern city...the bridge was already there. The first inhabitants told stories of strange people, some sort of vehicles, weird lights coming from the interior of this mystery island and other phenomena. Had they encountered the remnants of some ancient advanced civilization which preferred to keep a low profile and remain isolated?

Though not hostile to the new inhabitants and accepting their presence in a place where they once roamed at will, these unknown people made clear they had no intentions to allow anybody into their island. Incidents began to happen shortly afterwards. You well know that human nature tends to reject, deny or feel threatened by what is different or can't understand. There were even stupid failed attempts to destroy it, though nobody crossed anymore to the fast growing town on the other side. What might be happening in the island would have become a myth if it wasn't for the solid evidence of the bridge.

But we are also curious and inquisitive. In modern times after the neighboring city developed, many crossed the bridge, nobody returned. Rescue missions suffered the same fate and the island received its final name: Black Hole. Reconnaissance, fighter and attack aircraft were sent. Again, none came back. Satellites and space telescopes focused on the island. Their instruments malfunctioned and images burned white. Over or under the sea, same thing. Nothing but sharp black peaks were seen from the tall buildings. In fact, the island seemed to be protected all around its perimeter by these weird black rock peaks. Fences were built and the hypocrites even put a semaphore with a permanent red light, while an operation named Suicide Tours Inc. flourished. You know life in the cities, especially where cruel corporations rule, can be alienating. Of course, there were no tour guides. The company just provided barely refurbished vehicles that would have normally gone to the scrapyard. It's amazing how much people can pay to commit suicide or satisfy their morbid curiosity of whatever happened after crossing the bridge.

As scientists found out, the bridge's materials were already well known, but combined in a strange way that modern technology could not reproduce. This gave it it's amazing strength. Only a waterfront platform could be built around one of its bases. The lights from seemingly no power source, located at near pavement height along the inner sides of the bridge in an equilateral triangle pattern if seen from above, also confused them, as well as the incredible capacity of parts of the structure to change colours according to the time of the day and weather. Naturally, this was exploited as a tourist attraction too.

As people from Black Hole frequently crossed the bridge until three centuries ago, archeologists and multidisciplinary teams are searching the island trying to find any signs of their activities. Do they know where and what to look for? If they find something, will they be able to formulate the right questions without being banned by the scientific community? Are the people from Black Hole still coming undercover to the most remote parts of the island? It's most likely.

Meanwhile in Black Hole, the mystery remains...

Note: This might be a source for future projects. Yep, I really placed about 40 tiny lights as described earlier. It's tempting to make them visible using a different camera angle and under a new situation

Thanks to anyone who got this far, but for your relief, me writing this much seldom happens

It was tough, because the concept accepted several moods. So, decided to choose the 2 I thought were the best to suit most tastes.

Great stuff!  I get the images in my mind about alien refugees having fled some distant home planet of theirs and hidden here. From us as well as from their 'peers' who might come looking for them.

Thank you very much! Very interesting mind you have I do have some visions, but if I'm not right at the computer, these vanish or get an ideas overdose, which equals nothing

Yes - that happens. I keep getting the most ridiculous ideas when out running or in the shower or at work or something, and if I'm unable to scrible them down, they are usually gone later on.
