Description
Yes my first tutorial ever.. xDAfter I took so many photos of step by steps from this drawing I thought that I may also make a tutorial out of it... so it's a step by step, the way I draw fur!
I hope it helps and if there are questions, feel free to ask!

The way I'm doing it is ending up with a feather-like effect, I push the contrast between the clumps too much. But I am highly considering drawing a green a purple pegasus now! XD Cause I do really like the effect, I'm just not making it look like fur lmao.

Finally got around to trying this with my pencils! fav.me/d906t8bΒ The sketch that I used this technique for is the black fur.

^_^ I wasn't quite happy with it because it looked clumpy, but I'm glad you think it worked. ^_^
HOWEVER! With the technique I learnt from following your tutorial, I was able to develop my own method out of it which IΒ AM happy with. sta.sh/0s054u7ank1Β So your tutorial has definitely helped me, since I used the shading technique from it in doing that. ^_^ (I realise I need to work on the highlight a bit, the blue doesn't blend in so well. The fur works, the colouredΒ lighting needs more practise. xD)

Hmm, I can probably do something similar to this, with just my pencils. (I don't like pens, and haven't bothered to get a good one except one for lineart inking because of the fact that I don't get on with pens so well. xD)

yeah I can do that with only pencils as well but it takes more time *g*
But i use pretty much the same steps with pencils :3

This is extremely helpful!! Thankyou! I hope this won't be the first and only tutorial! Is this the same method you use to do your hair?

ShaBiest In reply to Silence333 [2013-09-20 09:02:59 +0000 UTC]
hehe thank you <3 and I might do more xD I already have a photoset of how to color feathers but I didnt get to make a tutorial out of that yet
and in some aspects it is the same way how I color normal hair, the shadows and lighting is just set somewhere else sometimes, depens on the hairstyle of the character

Super helpful! Are there any off brands of Copic markers that arent as expensive? Or any type of marker that works the same but is cheaper? Thanks ^ w ^

thank you! :3
I think there does exist a brand of markers that are kind of a copy of the copics and are cheaper.. I havent tested them though
here you can see a comparison between the two: hydestock.deviantart.com/art/P...

just a small question, which brand or type of marker you use? or at least so far as I appreciate it is a marker and also, the type of paper you use? ^^

ShaBiest In reply to Nainty [2013-04-25 18:24:37 +0000 UTC]
haha good questions!
I am using Copic Ciaos on Laserprinter paper, usually in 120g/mΒ² so it is alot thicker than usual paper which makes it easier to work with lots of different 'layers' of colors.

oh thank you very much, I hope that here in Mexico sell this type of paper and the mark because here we lack many items TTwTT

Can you get the same effect using colored pencils instead of copics?
π: 0 β©: 1
ShaBiest In reply to Chibi-Starlight [2012-12-15 19:09:06 +0000 UTC]
yes you can! :3
ever thought why there is a white pencil included in alot of boxes? it's there to blend the color and it works really good with black.. it will make is look smoother ^^ you should try it out!

Huh. I never would have picked that you use copics. I would have always guessed colored pencils.

haha it switched a few years ago but I'm still capable of using colored pencils only :3
