Description
Absolute worst tutorial ever!!! XD I threw this together in like an hour or so, yep pretty basic technique... but maybe it'll help someone anyways! However if you REALLY want my advice, please don't rely on this one tutorial for creating fur... I don't use layers or anything special that might make fur-drawing a lot easier. Be sure to check out the other tutorials out there as well, and don't forget to add your own style to it rather than just copying them!_____________________________________________

Nice tutorial you have there
Can I do this with feathers? Except make it more feathery and gappy. I'm doing a dino.

Oh, probably! The fur kinda came out feathery-looking in this, anyways. I should do an updated version 8D

That's a different take on fur. I like it!
Smudging isn't cheating, lol. It's a tool! Every one of my paintings is smudged to hell and back, lol. I'd die without it!
To me it's no different than smudging with fingers while painting or q tips while sketching.

Is it weird that this helps me more with real media than with digital? Most styles don't carry over too well between the two, but I could really see using this with pencils.

I protest! If the smudge tool is cheating, why the heck did the invent the thing? I say it's the handy artist's secret weapon.

...as does everyone else on DA xD
But I'm going to try it out and see if I like it. I've been doing just straight lines without much detail. ^^ Thanks!

Hehehe I use the smudge tool too!
But then I use smude tool to GIVE texture not smoothen it.
Nothing in my books is cheating as long as people can't tell what you are DOING. So it's not slap in your face 'holy cow I used the smudge tool!'
Wonderful tutorial!

I don't want to annoy you,but I,more or less, supposed how you did this style of shading and I used it to do the fur in the tail of one character in this picture: [link]
However,I appreciate that you shared a piece of your experience with us

The smudge tool is cheating? Wow... I did not know that. I guess I'm just a filthy rotten cheater.
Seriously, what's wrong with using the tools you've got to your advantage?
