Description
COMMISSIONS TUMBLR | INSTAGRAM | TWITTER | KO-FI | ETSY | REDBUBBLE | INPRNTIt's time for a new collab at and this time we're doing gen collabs! This means more random Pokémon for me to draw!
I think the RNG gods read my mind when they gave me Golduck. I have been participating these collabs since 2014 or something and the first piece I did was a Psyduck . Ever since then I have been thinking about doing a Golduck at some point so now I had the perfect excuse.
Back then I based my Psyduck on a platypus because it seemed most fitting and most interesting and I still think so! I wanted my Golduck design to fit with the Psyduck one so I made another platypus based design. I wanted my Golduck to look like some kind of prehistoric platypus, or perhaps even a possible future platypus. When I was a kid I had a book with speculative animal species and it was the coolest thing ever and I think this Golduck has a similar vibe. But I digress. I gave Golduck proper webbed feet because I just liked the look of them. Golduck is a cool Pokémon and it deserves more love!
(My iPad has recorded the process of all of my Pokémon paintings I've done on it so expect a process video of this at some point!)
I hope you like it!

Coot feet might also work, but I thought since it's a platypus based design I went with flippers!
Coot is a fun bird though, and the chicks are adorable.

I like how you gave the plumage that oily sheen like penguin or duck feathers have. It's a subtle but realistic touch, and it looks so much better than solid blue would have.
That book of speculative future animals wouldn't happen to be The Future is Wild, would it?

Thank you! Glad to hear you like the plumage. I thought it needed some texture and since I already gave my Psyduck similar plumage why not continue with that!
That's the book! I didn't remember the name. Nowadays I have a couple of speculative science, very interesting stuff.

Yeah, I have fond memories of that book. The miniseries too, even though the CGI was embarrassing. All those fun future squids and bugs...

I was excited when you got Golduck, it was a hilarious coincidence and I couldn't wait to see what you'd do with it. : D It turned out so cool! The big neck makes it look absolutely majestic, and the body shimmering in many colors is beautiful.

Golduck needs more attention. I tried it once (in bw2 I think) and it turned out fantastically well.
I'm getting real dinosaur/prehistoric vibes from this design, and I like that a lot. Much as I do like it, I adore that gem (thing) on the forehead and how it resembles an eye. Very cool. ^_^

Great job with the drawing, and specially with the design of this golduck! It seems like you put a lot of thought making choices about how it would work as a real being! Did you research something for doing it?

Thank you! Late reply but yeah, I did do some research! Doing research on various creatures and their features/characteristis is a part of my art process.

I can see it into your art, it's seens like you research a lot before drawing. It's nice to have this kind of methodology, all the work pays off in the end
