I am very thorough when I create my initial assets, which is the reason I have 25 drawings for every hand-shape I presented so far. I do, however, recognize that this method is tedious, slows the animation process to crawl. After all, spending too much time on set-up, takes away time from execution. Sometimes, you'll need a unique shape, because you're having the character do something you never planned in pre-production, or maybe you'll notice that maybe the transition between one shape to another needs to be a little smoother. In the end, the goal is to not create a drawing for every angle.

It's important to also manage these drawings under the same naming conventions I mentioned back in the description of the the second chart , as it's very possible to end up with more than an handful.

For uniques, I like to name them using, whatever angle looks closest, and using the letter "Z," to indicate that it's a unique drawing, and not meant to segue into any others. For Example, If my first unique drawing was at the 7Q angle, I'll name it 7QZ01 (if you run out of numbers, start using letters; after 99, reset to A0, A1, A2, etc).

For transitional art, go with the series that the drawing starts off as, and name it that, and add a letter and number. This will lengthen the name of the drawing by two characters, but it's ultimately the best way to keep track of it. For Example, if I determine that transitioning 3QA01 into 3QC01 is too sudden, and need two "in-betweens, " then those two would be called 3QA01A1 and 3QA01A2.

This hand shape is of the Index and middle finger extended. I use it as part of the quotation finger animation, and really can't think of too many uses for this pose, otherwise.

Feel free to use this as a reference for your projects. I don't mind if beginners trace it (but you amateurs and professionals should just use it as a reference). Just remember to credit me in your comments and link back to either this deviation or my account page.
