Description
One of the most discouraging things that I discovered, is how much the 2D animation style is a dying art form. Although it makes me sad, it makes sense to me. It seems like it's the next logical step in cartooning. After all, traditional, hand-drawn, cell-by-cell animation was replaced with digital animation (made with programs like Flash or Toonboom) quite a while ago.3D computer animation no longer require whole render-farms to produce it's high quality visuals, making it an effective cost-saving choice. 3D computer animation can produce stunningly life-like, photo-real images, if that's what you want. It's not what I want; I like cartoons, and I noticed that, after aproximately twenty years, the computers are able to re-create the over-all bright, colorful aesthetic of cartoons. You know what? I like [most] of what I see.
I have enjoyed many of the Disney/Pixar Movies (like Tangled and Wreck-it Ralph), and even some of the new 3D cartoons (like Carebears, Strawberry Shortcake, Green Lantern Corps), but I am still an incurable fan of the 2D animation. When I first saw "The Princess and the Frog,"I remember thinking how refreshing it felt to see a new Disney 2D movie for the first time in years. It was a wonderful feeling.
Despite the fact that I can objectively say that 3D cartoons are good (and getting better), it is still my subjective opinion that it is not quite good enough to replace 2D animation, yet. I just think that there is an undeniable charm to moving illustrations.
This hand shape is the pointing finger. You might notice that drawing 4BG03 is identical to 4BB03 on the second chart . Sometimes that'll happen when making a series of drawings. It's better to have a repeat, than to leave a hole in the series. I learned it will save on a lot of confusion later.
Feel free to use this as a reference for your projects. I don't mind if beginners trace it (but you amateurs and professionals should just use it as a reference). Just remember to credit me in your comments and link back to either this deviation or my account page.

The 2D animation style may be dying a little, but it'll never truly be dead. It's too beautiful and important to fully die, when there are people like you who want to and can help keep it alive.
