Description

"Finally, my day is over." She thought as she slid the key into the lock and turned the key. The door swung open gently and she set her purse on the hall table as she closed the door and locked the deadbolt. Unbuttoning her blouse and slipping it off her shoulders she laid it over the backrest of a breakfast nook bar stool and paused as she noticed that the dining room light was on and turned down low as she saw the candles and a dozen roses sitting in a vase on the table. Smiling at the thoughtfulness her partner always displayed, she still had a moment of panic as she wondered if she had forgotten their anniversary or maybe another equally important date. Realizing that she hadn't forgotten anything she relaxed as she felt her lovers strong but gentle hands wrap around her waist. She slid her hand over her lovers arm and tilted her head back as she felt the warm breath and lipstick painted lips of her wife's lips as they caressed the skin of her shoulder and neck. She closed her eyes and let out a soft moan through parted lips as she felt her lips break contact with her skin and whispered a verse from one of her favorite songs in her ear. "Hello .... Is it me your looking for?

Sorry everyone if this isn't one of my normal pieces, I am more widely known here for my fetish and heroine peril images. Of late I have been moving in a new direction as I switch from using Poser to Studio. I have started a Stargate comic and I took a break as I build a gate room before I continue forward. This started out as a tinker and grew into the image you see now, sometimes my mind is strange that way, I was listening to Five Finger Death Punch and rendered an image that uses a verse from a Lionel Richie song ... Who would have ever guessed that one?

I have enabled the critiques function on this image as I would be interested in knowing, if you feel like leaving one, what you like or dislike about this image and my work in general.

While the narrative provided in the description really does pack the mortar into the proverbial brickwork of this scene, it does stand on its own quite well. The characters feel normal yet original and they are beautifully posed. The woman upfront has a nontraditional beauty to her expression which I applaud. The cityscape in the background is an excellent tie-in to tell the viewer what sort of life the characters live and compliments what attire we can see.

Technically, this render could use some work, most notably in the lighting and framing. While the lighting on the characters and the environment tell us that there is a ceiling lot above the characters, there isn't much evidence of any other light source. With that, I would expect to see a lot more shadowing, especially on the environment. With no light coming in through the window and the rather dim indoor lighting, I would expect this scene to be at or near night time, yet we see blue skies in the cityscape causing some visual confusion.

A rule of modern artwork that most professionals strictly adhere to with very few exceptions is to never frame a shot perpendicular to a wall in the background. While this isn't truly perpendicular, it is pretty close and I see no reason why it would benefit this image artistically for being so.

I hope I'm coming across as constructive in this critique. In my opinion, critiques are very different from comments and I try to be very critical without offending. I like this image and I really like the narrative. I hope you find this helpful. Thanks for the critique Crimson, you have given me quite a bit to think aboutΒ  here. Not being a traditionally trained artist your info on the background is insightful and helpful. It is certainly something that I will look at in the future and use accordingly. I don't think you were to critical at all, but very helpful and I appreciate it.

Well, there's a sense of being elsewhere/elsewhen, mostly from the window shapes and skyline.

There's also a sense of emotion between the characters, but before I read your exposition I wasn't sure if it was passion between lovers or pain from a vampiric attack.

Well the skyline is from downtown Seattle Wa., and the window is a retro style from the 30's and 40's but I can see where you would think it more futuristic. It is interesting that you thought it was a vampiric attack, that was the furthest from what I was trying to show. I would have thought the body language would have shown the passion between the two instead of an attack of one on the other.

I'm not that familiar with Seattle and thought the Sky Needle was taller wrt the other buildings, like the CN tower is. Or with the architectural style that uses those windows.

As to the vampiric attack, I'm guessing that you don't buy into the whole "vampires seduce their victims before drinking" thing?

It is but when you see it from a perspective view it can look different. As far as the windows look into the Art Deco period of the 30's and 40's to see more examples or simply look at architecture from that period. The Empire state building is an example.

Well you would guess wrong there but I would have done it with a more face to face pose which I think would be more in line with a seduction. With her being behind her, I thought it would have been apparent that it was a human seduction over a vampiric seduction.Β
