So I originally did this in order to have an avatar, but I really liked how it turned out and you also don't take a 2048x2048 image, scale it down to 50x50 and never have anyone see it in its full glory, do ya? Maybe I'll shade it sometime, too, we'll see.What bugs me a little is how the dark blue color is eating the line art when the image is scaled down to avatar size. The yellow one for example looks way better when scaled down. Ah well, maybe I should reconsider my favourite color
.So, did this in GIMP, using my Logitech MX510 mouse on the Everglide Titan super-giant-monster mousepad. Took me way too long again, probably 10-20 hours, but after all I'm having fun doing this, so: yay!

This one is a bit better quality and has transparency, so you might wanna use that one instead. Drop me a line once you downloaded it so I can remove it from my server.

Yeah, GIMP can be really weird at times. Especially the path tool, better use Inkscape for vector graphics.
But with most of the stuff you get the hang of after playing around with it for a bit. If you got any questions, feel free to ask.

It's too bad GIMP has no curve tool like MS Paint does. Pathing is unique, and is occasionally better than the line tool, however. I might try Inkscape; is it freeware?

Well, the path tool in GIMP is still better than the curve tool in Paint, but it's not the real deal either.
Inkscape is even better than freeware, it's free software (AKA open source).

awesomeness! i love blue, and i love yoshis! yay, 2 things that i love at one! Yeah, well, I used mostly paths and then path-to-selection and the fill-tool. It's a lot of work but it gives you pretty clean-looking lines and shapes. Line art was done using the stroke-path-tool and some more paths to give the effect of pressure-sensitivity.
Dunno what else, but if you wanna know some specific stuff, feel free to ask.
But as far as I can see from your gallery, you're doing very well already, keep it up!
