Description
Fanart for my fanfic. "Labyrinth" and "Return to the Labyrinth" fanart, copyright 198-something and 2006 by Jim Henson. An explanation for the image. When the Return to the Labyrinth came out I wasn't all that...pleased, for a lack of a better word. Although Toby had been designed in a somewhat pleasing manner, Sarah had pretty much been butchered. In fact, the way that she had been drawn didn't even vaguelly resemble the Sarah introduced to us by Jennifer Connely.
So when I started writing my fanfic, "Collected Reminiscence," I had to come to grips with the fact that, although I disliked the art, the Return to the Labyrinth was the official sequel to the movie, whether I liked it or not. And simply ignoring the graphic novel was not an option.
Hence the creation of a "Mix" Sarah. Based primarily on the Sarah of the Labyrinth, with a few Manga touches (ie glasses, ponytale), so as to bridge the two. And somehow make the story flow better.
This was the result. Toby is, obviously, the one tied to the throne, and Jareth is the figure waiting to appear, magic on hand (I forgot to fill him in. Grrr). As for the crystal in Sarah's hand....well, I'll answer it in a quote.
"But what no one knew was that the King of the Goblins had fallen in love with the girl (princess, in the Manga) and had given her certain powers."

Nice. You know, I haven't ever read the manga, though I have a vague idea what happens. Needless to say, I don't consider it cannon. I think the author of the manga himself said that only the movie should be taken as cannon.

*nods* Yeah, it's definitely "iffy" on the Canon scale...which opens up for more opportunities for fanfiction, anyway. And the story is okay, even if the inside art is sometimes...less than okay (at least at the beginning).
Still, the story's kind of fun if you get the chance to check it out. ^^

True. We should have been born within that time period--> it just doesn't feel right not to be. ^^

Gorgeous art! You've drawn Sarah so much better then how she appears in the manga.
And though the art of the manga has gotten better, ( though I know at least 6 or so Laby artists here on DA that could have done much better, yourself included from what I see here ) I regard it as most people regard Highlander 2 "doesn't exist"
Jim Henson didn't personally brand it a sequel only his company ( and as he is no longer with us I don't see that happening ) From the bits I've read of that 'manga' the plot is terrible and sarah hardly features. Toby was never important other then as motivation for sarah so why should he matter now?

Forgive the belated response... I haven't been on a lot lately. Erm, sorry.
Anyway! Thank you. Although I wouldn't go that far--my art is nowhere near the right quality for publication. *laughs* Because although the art from the graphic novel leaves much to be desired *coughs* I can still respect the artist for his work. I think it's just expressions and females that he has the hardest time with, but when it comes to his details and scenes I honestly feel only respect. Because doing work that complicated is hard.
Regardless, I appreciate the compliment and agree on a few different things--like perhaps ignoring its existence. Kind of like X-Men 3. *smiles* But it's actually not half bad, plot-wise. You should give it a go--Moppet is worth it, if nothing else.

Love it!
The name 'Sarah', in case you didn't know, means "lady" or "princess"...

*laughs lightly* Well, I knew that but I had completely forgotten it until you just reminded me. It definitely puts a different spin on things...*grins*

Yea, the way that they made Sarah in the first volume was awful. The second volume, on the other hand, was way better. They completely changed Sarah from the first one. But the ending to the third was torture. Such a cliffhanger.

Truthfully, I haven't even finished two yet, and I didn't know there was a third one. The price I pay for being poor...
But now that I'm informed, I'm going to head to my local bookstores as soon as I get a new batch of food money in.
Thank you for the favorite, as well as the comment. And now I have something quite joyful to look forward to.
