Description
Continuation of my tutorial. This is the first time sewing the ears onto the head like this and I'm loving the results so I'm putting it here. The head shown is a custom job, hence the missing ear tip and what not. I think this might be the last part of my tutorial, I might include a "HowTo" on doing a neck, I dunno.
If this helps anyone, I want to see the results! Just send me the link.^^
I think I'll do a tutorial on tails next.

Hey so I'm making another quadsuit and I want my character to have a missing ear and I was wondering how you made yours. It turned out really great so I kinda want to imitate your style because I'm still very new to fursuiting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a question, if you don't mind me asking. I'm currently making a fursuit head for a cosplay, and the base is a resin blank. Everything is great so far, but it looks like the fur "hood" I had sewn together will be just a little big. People have told me that it's fine if there's a little space between the fur a the base, but most of the people who have said that use foam bases. Since I'm using a resin base, will the slightly larger fur "hood" affect its appearance too much? Or will I have to adjust everything so it's just right?

It shouldn't affect it too much, it all depends on how much larger it is. Safety pin it a bit onto the head and see how it looks :3

What kind of mesh do you use so that the ears would spring back up? Is it a plastic canvas mesh or more of a fabric like mesh?

On step ten how did you make it look like the fur from the head go's onto the ear?

Would the mesh be flexible and spring back in place if cut in long strips maybe?(The character I want to cosplay doesn't have ears, only two long feathers coming from her brow, which if you want you can see her in my gallery if you want) If not then would you recommend me a material that would be easy to cut and is springy please?
Thanks!

In short pieces it will spring back. If you are wanting something for a longer length, I would try perhaps a light weight wire of sorts? Wire and a material. Sandwich a piece of wire in between some material.

If you want to just use the ears to put on your own actual head lol how would you do that? Like an elastic band? I cant wait to try this out, I just dont have a whole fursuit.

Just make the ears as shown, but just either glue or sew ears onto an elastic band, yup.

Okay, thank you so much! I also saw that you do commisions.. how long do you think a pair of ears would take to be completed?

It only takes about a few hours to make a pair of ears, but I'm not really open at the moment, sorry. I have a list I really need to finish first before I open back up.

I love you.
Now, about the ears. Since that one part is bigger then the other, would you start at the top of the ear and work your way down, or..?
Idk, thanks for any tips you can give x3

Sharpe19 In reply to Imexsasuke [2010-01-09 02:58:07 +0000 UTC]
Um... I love you too?
Always start at the tip and go down on both sides. That way you know you will have both sides lining up. You can always trim the bottom off if need be.

Next I'll finish the mouth (and tongue), install the LED and eye, add a neck and spray and He'll be done. I need to tweak the paws and finish up the tail a little. I'm real close.
