The amphibious Commander Utros Kalyj, member of the near-Human Blubreen species a planet in the Ploo sector in the Expansion Region who joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems, serving the Trade Federation in the Outer Rim. During battles like on Dac, where he supported the Quarren Isolation League to conquer their world for the Confederacy of Independent Systems he commanded a Trade Federation submarine (a Sub-Carrier to be exact), as well as a small fleet of Trade Federation Aquatic Battleships, Trade Federation Patrol Boats, Ostracoda-class gunboats (an aquatic version of the AAT), Mini-subs, Manta droid subfighters, Trident-class assault ships, Scarab-class droid starfighters, Vulture droid starfighters, and Trade Federation droid bombers. To improve himself for fights on water, swamp and other similar worlds, he added a special suit that would allow him to filter the water and breath without having to dive above the waves, or return to the inside of his submarine. Agile and a fast thinker, Commander Kalyj used his skills to outmaneuver Jedi who were not in their natural element when he had to face them, or would otherwise retreat. Using a mix of ship, submarine, mini-sub, Manta droid subfighter and Aqua droids, Commander Kalyj would prove himself to be a skilled fighter, but his expertise in aquatic battles at the same time made him rather useless in battles on most other worlds, as he was for a lack of a better word too specialized. But because of his skills and loyalty, Count Dooku would put him in assisting roles for Separatist Generals and Admirals on worlds were an unsuspected flank from the ocean, lake, river or other waterways and swamp regions could caught the Republic off-guard and allow for a victory of the Separatist Alliance. This was the reason why Commander Kalyj was feared among many Republic Commanders, Organic, Clones and Jedi alike whenever they encountered him, as his methods were unusual, surprising and very effective. Over the time he made some friends among the aquatic species he helped to fight for their liberty and freedom, including Quarren, Gungan, Selkath, Karkarodon, Aqualish, Vurks, Mere, Ongree, Patrolian, Fluggrians, Qwohog, Ishi Tib, Tynnans, Pa’lowick, Sesid, Nejma, Aeosian, Melodies and Neelabi.

At the End of the Clone Wars these friends would form the Deep Trench Club of retired aquatic Separatist Commanders, a clique of friends that would turn up on various aquatic, oceanic and swamp worlds to teach young aquatic species recruits what to expect from warfare in the seas and how it different from war on land, as well as to how fight in both environments. Most of the time however, the Deep Trench Club was not much more then an excuse to visit old friends on worlds far away, drink, feast and be nostalgic about times long gone and shared memories. Some of the members of the Deep Trench Club would not completely retire, but seek a career in aiding the Confederate Conglomerates to improve their aquatic droids, aquatic or sub nautic ships and other assets, based on their own experience with earlier, older models, as well as ideas they came up with during battles or being stationed on various of this worlds. To some this brought additional income then just their military or conglomerate pensions after retirement and most spend part of this in a shared pool of the Deep Trench Club to afford special houses and meeting grounds fitting for their members to live quit luxurious on each world they frequently meet, as well as often buy a nice estate and home for themselves while doing so. This rather specialized club later gave rise to additional, similar clubs of other Confederacy of Independent Systems organic armed forces and species, who copied the overall idea, often with a twist more fitting to their own military branch or special group of veterans. The Blubreen Commander Utros Kalyj later had a call out of retirement by some when the Imperial Remnant and the Republic needed to be fought again, after the Clone Wars original had ended in a stalemate after Dooku hat revealed Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to be Darth Sidious. Ever since the Republic had fallen apart, as had the Empire soon after and Kalyj saw no need to return to the battlefield, as he rather wished to spend time with his wife, children, friends and other loved ones. Understanding this, Count Dooku was glad that the former Commander Kalyj instead detached his most trustworthy officers and commanders who had once served under him and imprinted his ideas and lessons within themselves during their time under his command.
