Considered Bulgarians by most and seen as in union with the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Macedonians (refereed to as Greco-Bulgarians by some) first gained independence for a brief amount of time during the Balkan Wars. While in the first Balkan War, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Montenegro had been aided by Russia and Italian volunteers against the Ottoman Empire backed by Austria-Hungary against Russian influence in the Balkans, the Second Balkan War saw Serbia, Romania, Greece, Montenegro and the Ottoman Empire join forces against a too strong Bulgarian Tsardom or Empire, that was partly backed by the Russians against the Ottomans and by the Austrian-Hungarians against the Serbs and Romanians. After the First World War were Macedonia remained neutral, but was attacked by the Central Powers, when the Serbian Amy retreated into it’s mountainous lands Macedonia gained Western Thrace from Bulgaria. Because of this in the Second World War, when Nazi German forces occupied the region, most of Macedonia was annexed by the Bulgarians and the Hellenic Kingdom as allies or puppet states of the German Reich and the Italian Kingdom (Empire). Part of ethnic Greek lands claimed by the Greek Nationalists, it’s coastal Greek region was given to the Greeks up to Thessaloniki/ Salonique and the Macedonian region was in it’s totally claimed by the Macedonians. The main reason for Stalin in doing so was that the victory of the Greek Communists depended on a secure supply base over Macedonia towards them, where he had installed a puppet regime, as well as towards Albania, as Tito’s Yugoslavia’s loyalty to the Warsaw Pact, was also questionable the more the Cold War went on. At the End of the Cold War, when Yugoslavia fell apart, Macedonia, now a democratic Republic would use some of the leftover Soviet Red Army Equipment to attack the coastal Greek settlements and take the City of Thessaloniki, Greek Macedonia and Western Thrace. As a result a heavily weakened and defeated Serbia allied with Greece against Macedonia as both claimed Macedonian lands. To oppose this Macedonia and it’s neighbor Albania came closer together and aided rebellion and independence movements in Kosovo (which would become independent) and Epirus (as a potential buffer state between Greece and Albania, that both claimed border regions from one another). In hopes of re-normalizing relations with the Greeks, the Macedonians held the Macedonian lands between the river Axios and the river Nestos, but eventually gave back the coastal regions of Western Thrace east of Nestos back to the Greeks as a sign of good will and normalized relations.

Some focused on combined Macedon-Greek history and claimed Macedonians were not Southern Slavs closely related to the Bulgarians and others in their North, but actually a Greek Hellenic ethnic group ever since the times of Alexander the Great. Because of this history, some ultra-nationalist Macedons actually claimed the River Pinios as the rightful border between them, Albania/ Epirus and the Greeks, while also claiming most of Bulgaria as former Macedon Thrace all the way to Turkish Istanbul (Byzantium) to gain control of the Bosporos (Propontis). When QM-1 arrived Macedon, alongside Bulgaria and Romania had joined the European Union in 2007 and border skirmishes with the Greeks had nearly ended since then, turning more to legal battles in the European Courts. In the Aegean Sea the Greeks and Macedonians would even become somewhat of allies against Turkish ambitions and claims on some of their islands, coastal regions and territorial sea waters of Greece and Macedonia. Macedonia, so QM-1 would learn was actually one of the signatory nations of the International Observer Nations (ION) alongside the UN Permanent Security Members and major Group of Twelve Nations. This was mainly because of their aid in the War on Terror and this independent Macedonia finding a stash of Goa’uld and Jaffa weapons in an ancient temple of Alexander the Great, they then would analyze and research, making them one of the few expert nations early on even without access to the Stargate back then. Their main enemy was Thanos or Thanatos, a Goa’uld and the Greek God of Death who had defeated Cronos, Zeus, Ares, Athena, Poseidon, Pelops, Nerus, and Helenos on his rise to becoming a powerful System Lord. Most of his rise was thanks to the Naquadria experiments he had done on Langara, a Nordic, once Scandinavian and viking civilization of Kelowna (who held their worlds Stargate), the Tirania Confederacy and the Andari Federation, that had not been guided by the Asgard. Thanatos managed to bring these three nations to go to war with one another, thanks to his spies, using most of their Naquadria Weapons and making them more easier to conquer afterwards. Therefore the Langarans never joined or interacted other Nordic worlds, either free or under Asgard guidance, or Earth/ Tau’ri ever again and became one of the most fortified and majorly important worlds of Thanatos. Therefore the Tau’ri and Tok’ra attempted to sabotage his Naquadriah facilities on the world regularly.
