Description My room mate has these cool Prisma color markers. I've been working with prisma color pencils for a while and wanted to try out the markers. Now normally I hate markers, mostly due to having to make fifty million pointless posters in the course of being in the public school system, but I have never before worked with professional markers on an actually decent picture.

I had been sketching Link riding Epona the day before because I wanted to figure out how to draw a horse with a saddle and a rider. Having the horse rearing up was also somthing I wanted to try to draw. So I had this picture of Link I had done earlier. I inked it and used it to experiment with markers.

Markers are an interesting thing. I think I prefer colored pencils if only because if you mess up, you can erase, and you can also get away with more subtle colorings, but this was definitely a fun little project.

I wanted Link to be carrying his sword, but Link is left handed. Whoops.

So, yeah. Made with prisma color markers. took a good day or so to do. Fun stuff.

Y'know, it's weird. I was just thinking about Zelda stuff again this last week for some reason. Started trying to plot out the next scenes for the Sheik and Mido story, as well as writing a random scene from the White Magician story... So it's odd to come on here and see that hey, apparently you were thinking about Legend of Zelda, too. XD

It turned out really well! Especially Epona (all of Epona looks awesome), Link's arm with the shield, and your nice, subtle background with the castle and Castletown, and Death Mountain (even though technically, Death Mountain should be on the other side of Castletown; you turn left out of Castletown to get to Kakariko).

Link is likely about to fall off, though. ^^' I don't claim to be an expert on horseback riding, but pretty sure that when a horse rears while you're riding, you have to grip the horse with your legs and knees in order to stay on. Link's knees are way up in the air, indicating that he has his whole leg lifted up for some reason. He's not staying on...
Actually, his stirrups look like they're way too high in general. That leather padding bit that juts down is supposed to be where the legs come down. Link looks like if the horse wasn't rearing, he'd be riding with his knees up in the air anyway, and you don't ride a horse like that. You guide the horse with your knees.

But Link's leg is the only part of this that I have any real complaint about. The rest of it looks fantastic, especially considering that it was done with unforgiving markers (even if they were prisma color ones). Great job, Shells!

AAH! Giant comment of doom! XD So to attempt to explain why the stirrup and Link's leg looks weird, it's because after I had already started using one reference picture for the horse, I realized that the rider had no leg and was instead using a false metal leg. So my proportions were suddenly scewed and I had trouble figuring out where Link's leg and foot should go since the saddle in my reference picture had a special stirrup to accommidate for the missing leg. Part of my point in drawing this is I have no clue how to draw someone riding a horse, so when my reference pic wasn't useful, I draw whatever felt ok, but it's obviously wrong and I admit to fault on this matter. I tried my best. That is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

As for the background, I drew the castle first and then mentally smacked myself because I knew that death mountain goes on the other side but I wanted it in my picture anyway. Besides, in Twilight Princess, you can go around to the other side of the castle, so maybe he's behind the castle and therefore everything is in the correct positions. Yeah, lame excuse again, but meh.

Depends on which version of Twilight Princess you get! I heard that one version he's left-handed and in the other he's right-handed.

Well, yes, in the Wii version, everything is flipped, but in most versions, he's left handed and I believe that he should stay that way.
