Description Another little rabbit on my friend's lawn. Looks by his ear that he's had his share of problems.

No longer can I look at rabbits without remembering Mr. K.'s rant about jackrabbits from the first day of junior year...

Was the slight sepia on this intentional, or was it yet another result of the scanning?

Yep. Yay scanner artifacts! I have a feeling that if I actually sepia toned one of these, the scanned version would look yellow.

A quote from Mark Twain:
"And thus: Nevada Territory is fabulously rich in gold, silver, copper, lead, coal, iron, quicksilver, marble, granite, chalk, slate, plaster of Paris (gypsum,) thieves, murderers, desperadoes, ladies, children, lawyers, Christians, gamblers, Indians, Chinamen, Spaniards, sharpers, cuyotes, (pronounced ki-yo-ties,) preachers, poets and jackass-rabbits."

Oh, that Mark Twain and his quotes...

I find it funny that Christians comes between lawyers and gamblers.

Yeah, Mr. Clemens wasn't what you'd call devout, as evidenced by the fact that preachers are grouped with cyotes, "jackass" rabbits and (shudder) poets. I heard once that at a book signing or some such, a woman said something to the effect of "God blesses you", to which Mark Twain replied "I certainly hope so", then, when she was out of earshot, remarked something along the lines of "Apparently, she hasn't heard about our strained relationship".

Sometimes I wonder how many of these quotes and anecdotes are true, and how many are just stories...and for those that are the latter, who is witty enough to come up with them?

Yeah, good point. Of course, Ken Burns cited this particular anecdote, so I'm guessing it's at least based in reality. I'd guess that many myths about Mark Twain were started by the man himself, however. He did have a talent for that sort of thing, and if anyone was ever witty enough, it would be him.

That very well could be the case, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're right about that.
