Description This piece has been a huge time eater for what it is, but the result is just what I need. Further evolution of the rifle many of my Rangers carry to battle.

The rifle is in bullpup layout. Parts are modular and interchangeable, allowing for varying calibers and barrel lengths while cutting supply costs and logistics.
Full ambidextrous controls and forward case ejection are standard features.
This particular setup has a 14.5in barrel and a caliber comparably sized to but more advanced than 338 lapua.

Would many of you appreciate a variants set of this?

I love it!
Put a scope and a bipod on it and it's perfect.
Or transform it into 7.62mm and give it a belt feeding system and it would be a nice MG!

Every time I come back to this, I get sad because I can't own one in reality.

I came across this the other day, [link] the Kel-Tec RFB, and was instantly reminded of your rifles.

If you were a skilled gunsmith you could make one, but that's a specific skill set to have

Indeed, unfortunately I lack the resources or equipment necessary for the construction of such a beautiful weapon.

Isn't .338 a bit big for anything short of a DMR, much less a service rifle?

Kaldravv [2012-11-21 10:33:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes, actually! Very clean, well thought, and practical. I would particularly love to see it configured for long distance sharpshooting, or a grenade launcher. Both seem like common needs for any advanced fighting force, and especially the former would give a wonderful show of the weapon's modular layout when viewing it next to this one! Well done!

This may be absolutely false since I've never held a firearm, but from the look of it I'd say its uncomfortable to hold and shoot. The mag and trigger seem to be in each others places. With the trigger so far forward there's no place to hold with your second hand except the barrel. Again, I've never held a firearm nor have I studied them in anyway so my assumptions may be way off.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to kumakuma12 [2012-10-18 05:47:46 +0000 UTC]

This is called a bullpup layout, where the grip and trigger are in front of the magazine. It make for a shorter weapon without sacrificing barrel length. The supporting hand can still grip in front of the trigger.

kumakuma12 In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2012-10-23 06:24:52 +0000 UTC]

I see. So its basically long-range weapon for closed-in tight spaces? Where a larger one would hinder mobility?

A lot of military weapons, primarily assault rifles, are "bullpup"-design, like the british L85, the TAR-21 or my homecountryΒ΄s Steyr AUG (officially the most successful bullpup AR). China has a combo AR and submachinegun (for part compatibility and lower production cost). Belgians created the F2000 with forward case ejection to allow ambidextrous use, since most bullpup designs need to be modified more or less if you wish to use it lefthanded. I know what iΒ΄m talking about, iΒ΄m lefthanded myself, but i used the AUG righthanded while serving in the Austrian Military.

As for the design, it looks wonderful modular, may i suggest to create some optics, grenade launcher, taclights, laserpointers ect. for it?

Yeah, it helps a lot with mechanized infantry that deploy from APCs.

That's quite a large round for such a small weapon. I would hope it would have a good enough recoil dampening system to compensate for the kick from those large rounds.

If this is the same rifle as in your "Stay Frosty" image, I'd certainly be all up for a variants sheet
This is not only a very good looking rifle, but it seems to have been designed with a lot of care to how the weapon will operate

so this is one of those guns that can be play different roles in combat like it can change on the go with the right attachments?

Not so much on the go (unless a soldier specifically carries extra parts), but more that all the rifles share common parts, helping out with inventory and soldier familiarity.
