Finally, the male anatomy counterpart to the ladies tutorial from a month or two ago
I decided not to address the male genitalia this time around... one reason being cuz I don't think they are drawn as often as the female parts, and secondly because I suck at them XD I won't link directly but if you click here you can find a separate link to another tutorial that I found interesting on a non-DA art site.
Oh yeah, sorry the colors are hellla ugly. I was feeling uninspired.
Thats it I guess... again, feel free to ref, copy or trace any of this, its all free for you to use. Hope someone gets some use out of it

Hugh Jackman is an excellent example of the male anatomy, seriously until I saw him on screen I hated facial hair, but on him strangely enough it doesn't bother me.... =w=
And you did an awesome job at this tutorial, it's really going to help me a lot! ^^-

Oh god, you crack me up xD These tutorials of yours are a true pleasure to read
I suck at drawing men (since I think women are prettier and therefor have drawn them more) and this will surely help me on my journey to become better at it. This is awesome and now I'm going to go check the ladies-tutorial (even thoug I should be doing something else and more important aka school work)

aaahhh Your tutorials are so wonderful refreshingly funny!
Nine times out of ten I don't have problems with facial expressions or poses but manly men are something special... indeed.
Thanks for that! It's really worth reading.
And I completely agree about Hugh Jackman and the Chinchilla.

Ah, I just love your tutorials. I am trying to work on my male anatomy so I think this will be rather beneficial.
Sorry to bug you, but a random thought popped in my head and I have to spit it out: You know what has actually helped me understand human anatomy better on whole, though? Art history class. Greek sculptures, in particular. Sketching them in class while the prof goes through slides, it's silly and quick but it does give you a little outcropping, so to speak, to get your bearings on.

shingworks In reply to LadyWysteria [2010-09-30 20:21:45 +0000 UTC]
It can be good Though it definitely depends on the art period, haha!

LadyWysteria In reply to shingworks [2010-09-30 20:40:40 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's true. We've gone through some really crazy looking shit, especially prehistoric and Mesopotamian art.
But the Classical Greek and Roman sculpture is simply amazing, I've taken to sketching the ones I deem really interesting when I take notes. I like that it's a break from the really rigid poses that human figure sculptures always seemed to have in earlier Greek pieces. They have real personality, and seem much more fluid, like they could just walk away if they wanted to.

I only took one art history class (it was a mandatory lib arts requirement), but the artist I remember the most for his living anatomy was Carravagio. His sculptures are like... damn

Pretty spot on. Very nice tutorial, though I think one of the reasons that a lot of artists don't bother with body hair is either out of laziness or maybe cause it makes the sketch a little to busy. Then of course there are those who want their Bishi-boy wonders as you put it. lol. Though I think the chest hair can rise a bit higher, onto the collar bone and lower neck. (It does with me though maybe I'm odd that way.) But none the less this is very helpful.
