Description FURRIES lol

Just kidding, they're scalies. Three sceloporus; S. consobrinus, S. undulatus and S. woodi, being all old timey. I was thinking Lackadaisy Lizards the entire time I was painting this. Which, incidentally, was 2.5 hours, because I am going crazy trying to finish all my work...

Despite deadlines, I decided to do this anyways cuz its for my (doctor!!!) friend Adam, who has a paper coming out soon Its called "Population Sampling Impacts on Multilocus Species Tree Inference: Discordant Traces to Mitochondrial DNA Clade Boundaries in North American Fence Lizards (Sceloporus undulatus Species Group)." I read through it and understood about 50% of it, haha. Suffice to say its about sorting out different types of lizards using genetic analyses. But yeah, he's awesome and deserves dated lizards.

Also I think I need more art in my gallery that isn't mature T__T Everything has had boobs in it lately.

But they're not wearing anything below the neck.

I demand a censor.

Nah, they have pretty long torsos (and you have a mind in the gutter)

Looks like someone else already made the Frog and Toad comparison, which came to mind right away. But I almost laughed out loud that you do illustrations for a friend/former grad student's academic papers. I hope they have helped him get them published! I need to hire a few more people... (if I had much of a research budget that is).

shingworks In reply to perkelate [2009-03-27 03:57:57 +0000 UTC]

Haha, well his paper is already accepted, its just undergoing the final review I think its going to be in Systematic Biology. He's going to see if they can put it on the cover! Its a bit silly, but who knows, maybe they'll choose it XD

perkelate In reply to shingworks [2009-03-27 21:40:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, that would be pretty cool. I jumped to conclusions there about where the illustration would go. But the idea of it being on the cover of an academic journal is great. Now that I think about it, I do most of my journal reading from online copies and almost never see the front cover. Except for a few anthropology journals. I've never even thought of where the photographs on the front of those come from! Let me know if your illustration gets published!

Dapper, indeed.
A new pet trend on the horizon? Dogs shall no longer be the most popular pet to be dressed in outfits.
Also, Mr. S. undulatus be saying : "Excuse me, ladies. Have you seen my beach ball? It's t h i s big." Or that's what I keep hearing when I look at the gent. lol

Ahaha, I wish. My lizards want to die every time I pick them up (and my snake just wants me to die in general). They are not good candidates for fancy clothes :C

I say, quite right.
Now if only they could combine their props and articles of clothing into one, they would look even more dapper indeed.
I do say, brilliant picture XD

dragonack27 In reply to shingworks [2009-03-27 19:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'd say you hit the nail on the head about all the props you've given them. If you combined it all into one, I think you'd have the whole package X3

...OH WAIT! No! You forgot cuff-links!
And... well, I guess pocket-watches are hard to incorporate onto a lizard seeing as they don't have pockets... XD

I just had this mental image of your friend including this picture in his paper, and arguing that "S. Woodi can be recognised by their monocles".
Forget all that DNA testing stuff, go for the props!!

Distinguished looking lizard fellows- always fun to see a picture that feels like a total change of pace too.
