Description FURRIES lol

Just kidding, they're scalies. Three sceloporus; S. consobrinus, S. undulatus and S. woodi, being all old timey. I was thinking Lackadaisy Lizards the entire time I was painting this. Which, incidentally, was 2.5 hours, because I am going crazy trying to finish all my work...

Despite deadlines, I decided to do this anyways cuz its for my (doctor!!!) friend Adam, who has a paper coming out soon Its called "Population Sampling Impacts on Multilocus Species Tree Inference: Discordant Traces to Mitochondrial DNA Clade Boundaries in North American Fence Lizards (Sceloporus undulatus Species Group)." I read through it and understood about 50% of it, haha. Suffice to say its about sorting out different types of lizards using genetic analyses. But yeah, he's awesome and deserves dated lizards.

Also I think I need more art in my gallery that isn't mature T__T Everything has had boobs in it lately.

Holy cow I think this may be my favourite thing ever that you have EVER drawn. And I really don't fully understand why that is...

Nevertheless: AWESOME.

lol, I'm glad. Maybe you were a dapper lizard in another life and this is reminding you of all your old, grand(e) times.

You know, you're so strange.
Because you're a biology major who likes drawing... professionally.
So like, you have two professions. [DON'T say that illustration isn't a profession for you hahaha, you're publishing comics for god sake.]
And sometimes those two professions cross over.
In which case, you get something like this.
I paricularly enjoy the little scripted names next to the drawings.

Also creative touch on the coloring of the belly as a kind of suit

shingworks In reply to foxorian [2009-03-26 21:20:25 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah... well, three professions, if I'm counting all of them (I'm going back to school to get my teaching credential in bio). On the one hand its bad to spread yourself too thin, but on the plus side its fun to meld things together XD

Well hey, I do illustration, graphic design, photography, electronics repair, and even I hope to teach some day as well. [Granted I want to teach a class on advanced digital medium.]

Awesome XD I think the best artists tend to be multidisiplinary, or at least have a variety of interests. No matter what subject, learning lends credibility to your art (in my opinion)

Very cool! I like how the rough scales on their jaws kind of remind me of mutton chops. Nice incorporation of the olde paper.

Hehe, thanks XD I actually hadn't noticed the thing with the scales until you and someone else pointed it out... they actually sort of look like that irl, which probably explains why I like this kind of lizard so much <3

I agree that he deserves some very refined lizards. hooray getting papers published

They are quite fancy.

marinated-fish In reply to ??? [2009-03-26 18:47:03 +0000 UTC]

Their skin patterns almost look like clothing, and somehow you managed the poses and props so that they have a human look. I think that's a great job, because making lizards look actually antropomorphic is hard!
I love the dapper look :3

lol, not "my" doctor, just a friend. He was my grad-student advisor when I was doing my undergraduate research at Berkeley, and has since gotten his PhD. Most of my lizardy art here was made for his sites/ research

Frogs belong in bowler hats.

Funny you should mention the mature thing... I recently turned on the mature content filter for my DA because I was getting pretty sick of seeing bondage pictures every day in the Daily Deviations, but then I realized that pretty much all the art showing up on your main page was blocked.

shingworks In reply to Artoveli [2009-03-26 18:37:00 +0000 UTC]

Lizards, actually XB They're Eastern bluebellies.

And yeah, I happened to sign onto my page at the library and couldn't access half my stuff XD
