Description
Hot Chocolate-
Shivering, Light quickly rubbed his hands back and forth against each other, staring at the computer screen in front of him.
Freezing.
It was completely and totally freezing.
“Ryuuzaki, why is it so cold here?” the brunette complained as he shot the other male a hard look, annoyed at their current situation. For the longest moment, L didn’t respond. He seemed rather engrossed in his current findings, and Light knew that there was nothing he could do to pry the detective from his musings except wait.
And he did wait for what seemed like an eternity. Light could practically see the frost forming on the computer screen in front of him, and was just trying to calculate exactly how many fingers he was going to need amputated due to frostbite when L finally spoke.
“The heater’s broken,” the detective said simply, never removing his eyes from the screen.
Light could have screamed in frustration.
Or hit L.
Either seemed like an appealing prospect at the moment.
“Don’t you have the money to get it fixed?”
“Aizawa’s working on it,” L said quietly, his eyes still flicking from screen to screen. “Matsuda offered, but we would have been without warmth for the duration of the winter, so I quickly negated that idea. You are well aware that I can’t simply call a repairman, though, Light-kun; I can’t allow anyone in here. Aizawa seemed the most mechanically competent, so I’m allowing him to do it.”
“Couldn’t you do it?” Light asked blandly, already knowing the answer.
“Of course. But it would take too much time and energy.”
Light rolled his eyes as L began nibbling on a heavily iced gingerbread cookie, obviously only half-listening to the conversation. Sighing, Light looked around the area. The workspace in front of the computers was nearly inaccessible due to the sheer volume of Christmas sweets that had accumulated there. Most of them were English or American in origin, but he could identify different holiday treats from nearly eight different countries.
“You can’t possibly tell me you aren’t cold.”
“Fine. I won’t tell you. It will be a well-kept secret.”
Yep. L was going to get himself hit again if he kept this up.
Standing, Light tugged sharply on the handcuffs linking them. “Come on. Get up. I’m cold and I want hot chocolate. It’s two in the morning so I don’t want to bother Watari, and it’s Christmas, so you can at least deal with me for this, since you’re making me stay awake,” the brunette said, adding the last part with a bit of a bitter tone in his voice.
Blinking, L took another bite of his cookie before answering. “If you wanted hot chocolate, Light-kun, you merely had to say so.”
“I am so going to hit you.”
“Why?”
“Never mind.”
---
Light couldn’t help staring around the kitchen. He had actually never been in here before. He’d spent his entire time here handcuffed to L, and all of L’s food was brought to him by Watari, so Light’s meals were brought to him in the same fashion by default.
The thing was huge. He doubted the Japanese Prime Minister had a kitchen this size. It was a wonder Watari actually found anything.
“Do you know your way around here?”
“Of course. I designed it,” L said as he began gathering the necessary ingredients for hot chocolate. By his motions, it was obvious he knew the steps but had never actually performed them. Rolling his eyes, Light shoved the detective away from the stove, grabbing the milk and chocolate away from him.
“I’ll do it.”
“You make hot chocolate, Light-kun?”
“Of course,” the brunette said as he began to pour the milk into a pot on the stove. “Up until this year, I’ve made it for Sayu every winter her entire life. My mom and dad always get me to make it for them, too. It’s something I happen to be good at.”
“I see,” L said, interested as he watched Light break up the chocolate and begin stirring it into the pot. The kitchen was cold as well, and Light had noticed snow collecting against the windowpane. As the stove got hotter and hotter, however, it got warmer in the general area. It was going to be hell leaving it.
“You really never do take a break, do you?” Light asked quietly as he stirred the mixture again, the chocolate beginning to melt in the milk and combining with the liquid.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean you never seem to take a rest.”
“Crime doesn’t rest, Light-kun,” L said sincerely. Light had to keep from rolling his eyes at the corny line, wondering if L was just trying to sound cool.
“Crime may not, but the criminals do. And you should, too. Now that I think about it, I’ve never seen you sleep.”
“I don’t, not really,” L said with an idle shrug as Light began to pour the hot chocolate out into mugs. He took the mug that was offered him and shuffled over to the nearby kitchen table. Light followed, noticing that the blessed heat from the stove did, in fact, reach that far. They had left it on simmer to keep the pot warm.
Taking a seat, Light wrapped his hands around the mug and took a very careful sip. He winced. It was as hot as he had been afraid it would be.
“You okay?” L asked, looking over at him.
“Yeah,” Light said, wincing again. “I think I burned my tongue, though. It’s hot.”
Casting a thoughtful eye towards the ceiling, L seemed to come to a decision. “Stick out your tongue and close your eyes.”
“…what?” Light asked, taken aback by the insanely odd request.
“Just do it.”
Still a bit off-put, Light frowned before doing as he was told. He sat there for a moment before his eyes shot open and he sat back in his chair, alarmed.
He had felt lips on his tongue.
That had been one of the weirdest sensations he had ever felt.
And he was blushing. What the hell?
“W-what did you do that for, Ryuuzaki?” Light asked, covering his mouth with his hand, his face still bright red.
Tilting his head, L somehow still managed to look completely innocent, despite what he had just done. “I’d heard that, when you hurt yourself, you’re supposed to get someone to kiss it better. Isn’t that true?”
“W-well… y… yes… but…”
Light’s voice trailed off as L closed the distance between them again.
Suddenly, the kitchen didn’t feel quite as cold anymore.

I love it! My favorite part has to be the fact that L designed the kitchen himself.
