...I think I'm in love with A.So, yes. My own mental interpretation of A (because I think, deep down, every DN fan has their own vision of what A looks like), put into the obligatory 'A Just Slashed His Wrists' pic.
Mmm-hmm.
A. Not quite as minor as X and Z, but more minor than Matt.
Anyway, done while chatting idly with =ZachsAnomaly , and while listening to (because you care)...

Also, because I hit the enter button to early, I drew/colored it with a Wacom Bamboo tablet in Photoshop CS2.

Photoshop is kind of complicated to learn, but it's pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. I actually started with Paint Shop Pro about... five years ago, or so, and only started using Photoshop about this year.
The Wacom Bamboo tablet is only about... $80 or so, which is relatively cheap... compared to the $300+ ones xD;

This is the reason I love Death Note. Minor minor MINOR characters even have fans, with rumors about their lives and deaths--I heard about A, but never about X and Y yet (musta skipped it!)

Here. I give you Death Note: Another Note, p. 170, p.p. 2, sentence 2:
If I had space left over I intended to carry right on into the other two stories I heard from L: the story of the detective war between the three greatest detectives, all solving the infamous bio-terror case, with guest appearances by the last of the alphabet, the first X to the first Z from Wammy's House; and the story of how the world's greatest inventor, Quillish Wammy, aka Watari, had first met L, then about eight years old - the case that gave birth to the century's greatest detective, the Winchester Mad Bombings that occurred just after the third world war.
...yeah, obviously, my emphasis, because I doubt Mello found them intriguing enough to italicize xD;
Yeah, that's... their only mention... so it might actually be X, Y, and Z, but Y is never actually mentioned by name; the only actual characters mentioned with letters of the alphabet attributed to them are A, B, L, M (& M2), N, R, W, X, and Z. Aaand three of them aren't even successors xD;;

Who the hell are A and B and X and Y and WHY haven't I heard of them? I finished the Death Note manga...

Okay. B is the antagonist of the Death Note novel, Another Note... L mentions the L.A.B.B. murder cases, and basically, B was the murderer. A and B were L's first successors back in Wammy's House; A committed suicide, and B went insane. X and Z (often called Y, even though it's Z in the book) are mentioned in one sentence in Another Note as two other successors that worked with L on a case once.
Basically, they're all SEVERELY minor characters except for B (Beyond Birthday)... like I said, all it says about A is that he committed suicide, and X and Z have one sentence, making them the named DN characters with the smallest parts in the entire fandom.

xD Good luck with that. I usually search for stuff using the character's name followed by the series, so when I look for stuff I type it out "Matt Death Note" or "L Death Note" or "Mikami Death Note". I didn't have too good of luck with "A Death Note"... wonder why >>;;;

Oh, he was one of L's successors when B was there, and he was ranked ahead of B... basically, he was to B what Near is to Mello. But A couldn't handle all the pressure of trying to be the next L, so he killed himself - then B had all the responsibility piled on him, but instead of committing suicide he just snapped

They never said that in the book. The only thing in the book that they said about A is that he committed suicide. Not what he looked like, not how he died, and not why he chose to.
Did you read the online version? People who DID are getting that conclusion from it. I'm assuming some fan-wat wrote it, because, literally, the only thing they say in the actual hard-cover, bought-from-library book is 'A committed suicide.'
So I suggest you read the real book if read the online version, because not only is A mentioned in 3-5 words only in the book, but Mello never had a girlfriend who burned to death.
/SPOILERS for those who haven't read it yet/
In fact, you COULD consider saying that the 'girlfriend' was actually B, who set on fire in an attempt to commit suicide.

I know they didn't say that in the book, but there are a lot of things that aren't said in the book. I didn't know there was an on-line version, though - I have the actual book, it's actually sitting on my bookshelf right now.
I got that from a bunch of other people, and since that was the general consensus I figured they got it from Ohba or something...
