AHHHHHH ok so you DO blur the lineart! I was never sure if you blurred the original lines or airbrushed them straight like that. Now i know XD Thankyou! Very helpful (i have the bad prob of my digital art looking too solid and eeew) so this helps ^^

in photoshop, if you click the layer in the layers window, and then press CTRL+J it will automatically duplicate the layer in the same exact position
it also works if you select a part of a picture, then ctrl+j, it will duplicate the selected area in the same exact position

I don't know if that works in pshop 7, I use CS2, but check it out, it saves you a loooot of time

wow, that's something i didn't know! it's not really that hard getting things to wiggle into position, but that's a really good one to remember. thank you, you made me smarter!! *dances*

Thanks! It's always good to see how other artists do their stuff. In Photoshop though, to make my lineart darker I simply duplicate the layer instead of copying and paste it- it saves the need to move the layer into place!

Sanne-chan In reply to ??? [2006-06-05 23:22:11 +0000 UTC]

nice one! If I may nitpic: why not just duplicate the inkinglayer and merge down to make it more visible? that way, you don't have to select, copy and spend three years lining everything up.

"OH NOES." for some reason, I never get tired of that joke. I love making fun of netspeak

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shirotsuki In reply to Sanne-chan [2006-06-06 02:36:37 +0000 UTC]

its about the same thing ^ ^. and it only takes a moment to get things to click, just hold down alt and budge with the arrow keys. plus if i merge everything, i cant make the new layers fuzzy like i like them. its just my little gripe ^ ^.

yah, O NOES is timeless. it will be around even after we are gone! *is stuck by meteors*

bigfluffykitty In reply to shirotsuki [2006-06-07 01:41:08 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, but I still don't see the difference between copy/pasting the whole layer [Ctrl-A -> Ctrl-C -> Ctrl-V -> line up manually] and using duplicate, a.k.a. "New> Layer via Copy" [Ctrl-J]. Am I missing something here?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shirotsuki In reply to bigfluffykitty [2006-06-12 20:45:05 +0000 UTC]

its the same thing ^ ^. one just takes a little patience. im used to the more arderous of the two actually, but its nice to have a little shortcut!

0_o... how do you make your lines so nice with the tablet?
mine are always so wavy...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shirotsuki In reply to AzureZephyr [2006-06-06 02:33:37 +0000 UTC]

sketch sketch sketch ^ ^. i also have the opacities set to my liking, you gotta fiddle with them sometimes. that, and open canvas's pressure sensitive opacity and line width sometimes need to be manually switched on. its kind of silly > >;

Ahh brilliant
Its amazing to see how many different ways of just linearting there are! The way you do it is amost completly different to me My lines are always very stark heh and I do a new layer for every other stroke XD but then I go for bold crisp lines. I also usually do the lines in Photoshop and colouring in OpenCanvas as I find the small brushes in OC less clean than the ones in photoshop SO its great to see how you do it, especially considering your caliber or art
Thanks ver much for posting this tutorial, I really think I could lern something from it and im almost certainy going to try ou this way of inking in the future!

shirotsuki In reply to TomSegal [2006-06-05 23:19:45 +0000 UTC]

no ^ ^. both programs are good for different reasons, different tools behave better for certain things in each one. its truly a matter that should be left up to the person using either to decide which is better, mind you, but i prefer usin' em both!

Wow you do have an interesting way of doing lines! When I read the bit about you doing 3 layers for your lines I though "what the hell is he doing" but once you explained you blur it, it all made sense. Interesting method indeed, can't wait for the next part
