a Commission for Maverikat, here we have the character Zecora. not sure what she is, a sorceress, a voodoo queen, an enchantress? I like her design tho. kind of looks like old school Storm from Xmen. I liked to keep the Mohawk look and wanted keep it in the pic.the colors came out nice but the drawing took three attempts to get it to how i liked it.

Zecora, is a zebra in the show, and while it's possible she dabbles in voodoo, she mostly seems to use herbs and potions and whatever she can find in everfree. She is very wise and always seems to know what's going on.

As for what she is, she's a zebra alchemist. She live out in the Everfree Forest making every kind of magic potion imaginable.

Seriously though, this is a pretty neat take on a humanized Zecora. Though now I can't help but imagine Rarity wanting to get her out of those skimpy rags and into something more stylish.

Zecora is a zebra who lives in a hut deep within the mysterious and uncontrollable Everfree Forest, speaks only in rhymes for reasons never fully explained or even slightly addressed, and makes potions and herbal cures from the various plants that grow in said creepy monster-infested forest where the weather moves by itself, plants grow on their own, and animals take care of themselves (things that the Ponies of Equestria normally have to take care of, right down to manually changing the seasons). Because of her strange ways and unusual appearance (seriously though, STRIPES?!), the ponies of Ponyville at first believe she's some manner of evil enchantress that lays curses upon unsuspecting individuals that cross her path, so they cower in their homes every time she comes out of the forest and into town (as seen in the season 1 episode "Bridle Gossip" where she makes her debut). After a short misadventure involving Applejack's younger sister trying to prove herself, magical weeds that apparently have a twisted sense of humor, hilarious misunderstandings, and the stereotypical "don't judge a book by its cover" moral (including a rare LITERAL example of said moral just to drive to make sure you got it), the Mane 6 and the rest of the come to learn that she's just a simple medicine-mare/alchemist from a distant land rather than some malevolent child-eating witch. After that, Zecora plays a significant supporting role in several episodes including "Swarm of the Century," "Luna Eclipsed" (which also shows her with her mane down and showing off some magic-like tricks), "the Cutie Pox," "Secret to My Excess," "Magic Duel," and most notably the season 4 premiere "Princess Twilight Sparkle."
Anyways, Zecora is probably my FAVORITE character in the whole series because of what she represents: a glimpse into the mysterious and exotic lands that exist far beyond Equestria's borders and living proof that the realm of Princess Celestia's rule make up only a small portion of an interesting and much larger world.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for world-building and lore (speculation and headcanons of the expanded Equestrian universe happen to be one of my favorite things about this fandom). I also happen to be a sucker for gorgeous exotic women in skimpy outfits (she looks AMAZINGLY SEXY by the way, great work).

Zecora is a Zebrican Shaman who lives in the Everfree forest (The wild, out-of-control wilderness near ponyville), whom ponies initially feared, due to her strange nature and choice of home, fearing her to be as dangerous and unpredictable. However, the locals came to accept her and even befriend her (Applebloom, Applejack's younger sister even seems to be attempting to apprentice herself to her, learning potion-making). Why she's chosen to leave Zebrica and live in a dangerous forest is left unexplained, as the backgrounds of most secondary (and many primary!) characters is left unaddressed.
She seems to have some high regard or reverence towards Luna, as she plays a major part in her celebration, Nightmare Night.
The original design documents state she was intended to be a secondary Mentor and Wise Master sort of character to Twilight, as Celestia would be generally too busy to play that role. However, as the series progressed, this concept got severally deemphasized, and she only filled that roll a small number of times. These days, she tends to be the go-to person for magical of medical maladies that fall outside of Twilight or Ponyville's Doctor's expertise. (So far, she was consulted on Parasprites, the Cutie Pox, Spike's sudden growth spurt, The Alicorn Amulet, The Black Thorn growths, and Big Mac losing his voice)
