Description
The first half of an instructional piece done for class- I planned to do the next half on gentility and courtesies but, of course, I'm in college. I never have time. I meant to make him look less like, oh, I don't know, a man from the 20th century gussied up in 18th century attire, but I was more rushed than I would have liked on his face.Quick Cautionary Note: this was for a project in class, and is in no way meant as something to be referenced by other people. If I was putting together a guide to costuming that was an actual tutorial, I'd be referencing period illustrations and extant garments all over the place. This is decent, sure, but you're much better off looking at the real stuff.

I'm impressed with the illustration, and even more impressed with the disclaimer you put into the description. Artistry and responsibility are a great combination that I really, REALLY wish more people possessed. Thanks for making my day.

I love the anatomy, hah - for some reason he looks a little doped in the face, mostly the eyes - he's like totally thinking of something... something deep.
Anyways - cool piece.

I loved this, if only for the display of the variety of wigs. Great job.

(And in regards to the use of it; I do look at the real stuff, but the names make it helpful. Most sites are VERY kiddie and just say "powdered wigs." This is pretty informative for a passer-by look. :3)

Drawing tricorn hats from various angles is...painful. Very painful.

That's awesome!
Fits with the styles of the time pretty well, I think!
Have you seen... hm, I think it's by William Hogarth, (he drew "the Rake's Progress" and such) and it's a "how to be a gentleman" type drawing, or maybe it's "a progression of wigs" from the era you're imitating, except it's quite cheeky and is definitely having a go at the gentry.

Not quite meant as a reference for anyone else, actually- I'd suggest checking out more direct period references to be safe.

I don't think his face is very 20th century, judging by portraits I've seen from that period and political cartoons. No worries.
By the way. This is one of my favourite works of art I've ever found on Deviantart. The 18th century was an awesome historical time period.

Not to be an ass, but you only use the big "S that looks like an f" if an s occurs in the word, not at the beginning or end.
Otherwise, this is a quite an interesting piece. Happy New Year!!

completely depends on the script you're using, actually- I just happen to like them, so I went with only long s's.

I really like how you made this out. It really gets me into pirates again (even if it doesn't pertain to the correct era. I'm terrible at those things), and makes me want to write a story about these two siblings. I also think I'll be watching you - your art is really nice and very original, seeing as almost everything here is now plagued by wolves and other canines.

I have to mention this made me think of a manga called "Emma" which is based around victorian era England. But I guess its after this time, during the Industrial revolution.
Then I thought maids.
