Description I have been trying to make good gems for a long time. Got pretty good a "web" gems but never sparkly enough to satisfy me the way faceted gems do. I had all but given up when I had a convo with ~nmsmith about his gems that made want to give it try again.

I started trying that way but really wanted a way that would work all the time with a set series of steps. After almost a week of tinkering you have this tutorial.

The black and white illustrations are brilliant and very informative also without them this method would not be possible!! After looking a long time to find the author these illustrations appear to be from a old text book. As far as I can tell they are public domain.

Many of the gradients are default photoshop gradients and some that have been tweaked to be a lil more interesting.

I love the look of your Faceted gems, but I found this tutorial really incredibly hard to follow. Very few of it made sense to me, any chance of you rewriting it so each step is more detailed?

I want to make something like that blue one on the bottom left corner, but it looks really intimidating >.<

Ooh, let me find it for you.

Here it is: [link] Although I WAS rather dissatisfied with a semi-flat appearance for what I wanted to do, so I used some white/transparent gradient methods from your tutorial to give them more of a three dimensional shine.

Apologies; I'd breifly mistaken you for the author of the tut these comments are on...

Either way; indeed! I love that Shrela's tutorial is so very hands on; but its not for beginners as inexperienced as myself by any means. >.< The two combined are such a happy medium!

lol no problem! My computer wouldn't let me load the style in the other tutorial, but I managed to find a way around that. So I used a bit of both. I might post a link to the results here when I'm done.

It's up! Here it is...[link] I used this tutorial mainly for the flowers, and textures from the other one on the dragonlike thing in the middle.
