Description These are the flesh monsters from the game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. I'm doing a drawing idea trade with

not sure what I wan't him to draw yet, maybe something to do with Cthulhu.

Anyhow, not my best piece ever, thats for sure, butit was still fun to draw these little deformed pig monsters. I think the sky is the best part of the picture.

they are not that much harder to kill in Oblivion lost. all you have to do is to get in front of them and shoot them in the head.

IggyHazard In reply to WWGeneral [2008-12-17 19:15:03 +0000 UTC]

It depends on which weapons you use. Fleshes in ObLost are more resistant to rifle and pistol rounds than they were in vanilla but a shotgun blast will still do the job. Or maybe it depends on the version of ObLost. Mine's 2.2. In Shadow vanilla, I could kill anything other than a pseudogiant with one headshot from any weapon unless it was a human enemy with their weapon shouldered. For some reason, when they shoulder their weapon, a headshot doesn't count as a one-shot kill. There are some things I like better about vanilla and some things I like better about ObLost. What keeps me going with ObLost is all the delicious new weapons and equally delicious monsters. Either way, my favorite sport is hunting fleshes with a pistol. It's so satisfying to pwn a snork in the head with a pistol (any make, model, or caliber) -- even moreso when there's a whole horde of snorks and you're fighting them in open terrain.

Now that I've been playing the game every day for the past month or so, I've slaughtered quite a few fleshes. The Dragunov SVU is actually overkill for hunting fleshes, gameplay-wise, and would be a waste of 7.62x54mm ammo. Not that it doesn't lo0k awesome in this pic. It's possible to kill many of the enemies and monsters with a single shot to the head with even the weakest firearm. The easiest to head-shot are fleshes and boars because they have big heads. I usually prefer to use a sawed-off shotgun in place of a pistol, though. There are different kinds of fleshes -- prairie (one point), forest (two points), and swamp (three points). The swamp flesh is the most hideous and most aggressive. The forest flesh is the most common type. I've seen lone fleshes flee from packs of eyeless dogs (presumeably, blind dogs coordinate attacks with psionics). I've seen fleshes battle blo0dsuckers (like a cross between a Predator and a reaper from Blade 2). And I've seen fleshes drag away corpses and feast on them! They're also cannibalistic, feasting on their own dead. They usually run away from you if they're alone, squealing wildly, but will attack in packs. A horde of fleshes can surround you and evicerate you in seconds if you're not careful.

Shotguns are ideal for exterminating mutants. Most mutant battles happen at close range, but you can get two types of shotgun slugs as well as standard shotshells. As for the rifles, the best rifle for mutant exterminance, in my opnion, is the AS Val (aka "VLA special assault" rifle in the game). It's chambered for 9x39mm, takes 20-round magazines, has an integral silencer, and is very light weight. Weight is an imporant issue in STALKER because you're only limited by how much weight you can carry rather than being limited to carrying a certain number of weapons or items. I should also tell you that I found a way to earn an unlimited number of grenade launchers (M-203), rifles to mount them on (SIG SG550), and ammo for each (5.56mm and 40mm).

[link] Here's a link that should work. This shows at least 13 different weapons: RG-6, RPG-7, Dragunov SVD, Dragunov SVU, FN F2000 w/40mm grenade launcher, OC-14 Groza (9x39mm bullpup assault rifle) w/40mm grenade launcher, AK-74, AK-74 w/GP-25 (40mm muzzle-loading caseless grenade launcher), Z-M Weapons LR-300, another AK-74, TOZ-34 (over/under shotgun), side-by-side shotgun, and a pistol (not sure which one). There are the same weapons on either wall plus some more on the flo0r. I know these aren't all the weapons, because I've seen screamshots that have other weapons, both NATO and Warsaw Pact. Since a stalker is basically a mercenary/pirate/scavenger/survivalist, they use whatever weapons and equipment they can buy, sell, trade, or steal. Warsaw Pact weapons typically have an olde worlde lo0k to them (with the exception of the OC-14 Groza) whereas NATO weapons are more modern-lo0king. Two of the weapons that don't appear in this image are the L-85A1 (aka SA-80) and the M-134.

I wish they'd left out the M-134 and had an M-60E4 instead. The M-134 is a 7.62x51mm mounted Vulcan machine gun, not made for human portability. General Electric made a somewhat portable machine gun in 5.56x45mm that uses the same type of battery-powered rotary 6-barrel assembly. It's called the GE XM-214 and was used by The Governator in Terminator 2. Arnold banned .50 caliber rifles in Kalifornistan, so he's a girlie man as far as I'm concerned. The XM-214 was also used by Jesse Ventura in Predator but it had an M-60 forearm instead of a handle on top for the supporting hand to hold. At least, I think it was an XM-214. It was never adopted for service because it was to0 impractical.

Our Military's GPMG (general purpose machine gun) is the M-240B, a belt-fed machine gun in 7.62x51mm. The LMG (light machine gun) is the M-249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon), a belt-fed machine gun in 5.56x45mm. It's also known as the Minimi which is what they call it in the UK. There are a few differences. The Minimi is usually supplied with a different type of stock but the basic design is approximately if not entirely the same as the SAW.

Woah, GE made guns? That's wacky. I can see why he'd ban .50 cals, though. They can penetrate bulletproof glass (some can, at least), so their perfect for assasinations.

Here's a picture of a Barrett XM-109 (25mm payload rifle). -> [link] -> Technically, it wouldn't be unrealistic to call it a "sniper cannon."

FunFact: Mattel manufactured M-3 Greaseguns during World War II. Other companies that didn't ordinarily produced armaments, including but not limited to General Electric, shifted production from mundane everyday crap to useful things such as weapons, vehicles, or other Military equipment necessary for Our Nation's survival. This one reason why the Allies defeated the Nazi siege engine. Our war machine was better than their war machine because we could out-produce them. Hitler even had suicide agents attempt to sabotage strategic targets in New York just like the Islamofascists of today. The aim was both practical in the sense that they were going after war production facilities and psychological in the sense that they were trying to show us that they were powerful and that we should be intimidated. They failed. J. Edgar Ho0ver encouraged citizens to rise forth with a clenched fist against traitors, collaborators, and spies. He suggested that citizens just report on suspected treason, whereas I would have legalized National Revolutionary Vigilantism.

Oh, where is that nationalist spirit today? Why, during this time of war, do companies not do as GE and Mattel did back then and produce g0ods that are actually useful?! We need guns, not Rolexes...tanks, not Limos. Society must shift its focus from business to war; from idolatry and competition to patriotism and solidarity. The spirit of combat is the lifeblo0d of a strong nation. Our Nation needs to be rejuvinated with that fierce spirit. Vigilance is the guardian of liberty. Rise forth with a clenched fist!

IggyHazard In reply to oneangrypirate [2005-12-02 03:54:36 +0000 UTC]

Laws only hurt citizens, not criminals. The purpose of all gun control is to keep the population psychologically castrated and at the mercy of the criminal element. Then Big Brother rides in on its White Horse -- reference to the song 'California Uber Alles' by Dead Kennedys which was a criticism of the Kalifornia Demokrat Jerry Brown, ironic because Dead Kennedys is a pseudo-anarchist liberal punk pacifist candyass band and you'd think Jello Biafra would be in love with the Democratic Party.

As for .50 cals, it isn't unusual for an anti-material round to penetrate bulletpr0of glass. Rifles of that caliber are typically used in anti-armor and anti-vehicular rolls, also used for destroying installations such as radar towers and other stationary equipment. Other calibers used in this roll are 14.5x114mm, 20x110mm, and 25mm. Barrett makes rifles in .50 caliber and 25mm. Typically, a rifle that has a bore 20mm in diameter or larger is classified as a cannon, but the 25mm Barrett XM-109 is known as a "payload rifle."

FunFact: The NATO metric designation of .50 BMG is 12.7x99mm.

Here's a pic of most of the weapons in the game. -> [link] They replaced the side-by-side shotgun with a pump-action combat shotgun which is a great improvement. They already have the over/under TOZ-34, so they have one pump and one double as per Do0m II, Quake, et cetera (except way more realistic). They have both an SVD and SVU. The SVD is more accurate but the SVU is more compact. The size and weight of everything you carry is significant because, as in reality, it affects how much you can carry. You must equip yourself wisely.

The FN F2000 has been appearing in game arsenals lately ever since Splintercell, probably because it lo0ks futuristic. Its design might have been influenced by the HK XM29 OICW. FN/Herstal has a lot of innovative designs. The F2000 shares family traits with FN/Herstal's PDW (personal defense weapon), the P90: ergonomic (almost organic) compact design, ambidextrous operation, all that sort of thing.

You'll notice that most of these weapons appear to be reversed when your character is holding them. You can tell by the receiver. The placement of the bolt and ejection port on most weapons are on the wrong side. This is especially a problem with the OC-14 Groza and SVU which are both bullpups with side ejection (as opposed to the ambidextrous F2000's forward extraction). If they had left-side ejection, they'd have to fired left-handed. Your character in the game uses all weapons right-handed. If you fired a bullpup like that, the casing would fly into your face and the bolt and/or charging handle would probably bite your face.

It's a common mistake that occurs in many modern FPS games. What they do is they forget to flip the image while rendering it, causing it to come out as a mirror image.

By the way, the shotgun in Zombies: The Awakening is a Benelli M-4 Super 90 (aka Joint Service M-1014). Not just that, but it has a nickel finish, even! That's not just for show either. A nickel finish is more weather resistant, resilient, and durable than a blued or even Parkerized finish. As long as it's matte nickel, it's g0od. Gloss nickel, on the other hand, IS on the showy side. It possesses the same weather resistance of its matte counterpart but with much higher visibility, making it a liability in combat.

It could be Marinecoat, which is another weather resistant finish made to withstand a saltwater environment. Marinecoat appears as a non-reflective light matte gray finish. I don't think the M-4 Super 90 is actually available in either matte nickel or Marinecoat, but it's feasible, so it's okay that they have it in the game. By the way, I have no information on the release date of Zombies: The Awakening or even if the game's going to come out or not. I hope they didn't cancel it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

IggyHazard In reply to oneangrypirate [2005-12-02 02:47:06 +0000 UTC]

Not an accident, more like an oversight, but one that's made by many game developers in many recent FPS games. There's a semi-auto shotgun (aka autoloader) in Zombies: The Awakening that has the charging handle and ejection port on the left side of the reciever yet the casings eject out the right side. THAT is an unforgiveable oversight. At least in S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the casings eject out of the ejection port, regardless of which side of the receiver it's on.

I'll see if I can find another link for that arsenal pic.

GSC Gameworld has been working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for years. They should have released something along the lines of Shareware, a demo version of the game. It could have, say, at least a quarter of the area (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a 30 square kilometer gameworld), at least one vehicle (the game has six), at least eight weapons (PM pistol, TOZ-34 shotgun, SVU, AK-74 w/GP-25 grenade launcher/sound suppressor/scope, RPG-7, and a few others), and some of the enemies (gotta have Flesh, zombies, controllers, blind dogs, and whatever else). This would get people even more psyched. Why they never did this, I don't know.

The zombies in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone are like meat puppets. They're telepathically puppetteer'd by controllers. Blind dogs don't have eyes because they no longer need them due to their psionic abilities. They can sense you through walls and can screw with your vision to throw off your aim if you lo0k directly at them. Dwarves lurk in dark areas like abandon'd mills, factories, and warehouses. They have telekinetic powers and can throw objects at you or send heat waves at you ("mind bullets" as Jack Black would say).

That, I don't know. From what I've read, GSC Gameworld taylored it for suped-up maxed-out PCs. You need a DirectX 8 or 9 graphics card. Other system specs, I don't know off the top of my head. FPS games are better on PC than consoles, though. Of that I'm certain. Nothing beats a trackball for FPS gaming. Analog sticks just don't cut it. Trackballs are better than optical mieces, even!
