yes, socks and sandles, I was a child in the 60s and 70s and its what we wore, also me and Severus as working class kids would have worn hand me downs and strange things, i remember wearing a small out grown dress over a pair of flowery home made trowsers made by my mum out of one of her old frocks. I remember getting my first fashionable trowsers with a smiley patch on them in 1976. my mum wore a scarf too.
Its a wonderful picture and I don't think either of them were ever ugly,plain, thin and sallow maybe and not pretty at all but not pretty does not mean ugly.

(The first thing I knew was that Eileen HAD to wear a scarf on her head... I have photos of my mum wearing those in the late sixties. And I absolutely wanted Severus in short trousers and those horrid sandals + socks.)

I used to picture little Severus with a ponytail, but now that we have heard about Tobias, Eileen and Spinner's End, I didn't think that hairdo very likely anymore. So this is what I came up with instead... The ponytail was cuter, but this one has a kind of irony in view of his unkempt hair in canon, I like to think...

This is really nice, and they both have *and rightly so* a distinct European look. Ah! I think Sevie was a mama's boy, I think that even though he may have witnessed her abuse, he would have been protective and respectful of her.

Oh yes, I definitely agree he was a mama's boy... It might be one of the reasons why he felt the Marauders' taunts so deeply.
Hee. What's so European about their look, if you don't mind my asking? I mean, I *am* European so I guess it's nothing strange that I should draw characters as such; it's just that I didn't specifically notice

Well I see a subtle, but distinct difference in the way Americans and Europeans dress. I think Europeans have a better sense of style, Americans tend to dress more casual LOL myself included.

Well, psychological abuse can reduce the strongest among us to a shivering wreck. Maybe he used her looks against her? She was described as "ugly" by one of the Trio - it may have been a sensitive issue, something that broke her confidence.
