Description
These strange little ocean dwellers spend most of their lives sitting on the ocean floor, nestled among coral reefs. Only eating once every six to seven months, they grow their only source of food within the stretchy layer of skin that lays over the animal's chest and belly. When it's time to feed, the animal opens the six little tubes on top of its back briefly, drawing in bacteria floating around in the water and storing them in the animal's belly skin flap. After absorbing a sufficient amount, the critter closes off the tubes and settles in to sleep. While in hibernation, chemicals are released into the area that the bacteria are being stored in, first multiplying them, then slowly breaking them down into a substance that it can eat. The result of this breaking-down process is an inflation of the creature's skin flap, which also begins to emit a white light when the chemical process is nearly complete. At this point, the creature awakens and harvests its new little crop by puncturing the skin (which heals quickly) and sucking out the food inside.Muh.

This is really amazing! Which tablet did you use to do it?
And about how long did it take?

Honestly I don't think there's that much difference between the two. If I remember correctly the main difference is in the amount of pressure sensitivity levels, which is nice to have if you do a lot of digital painting, but not really necessary for much else. : )

Hehe, what a cute newt. One thing though, all amphibians are able to breathe through their skins, so the gills would be unnecessary. Also, a real newt would dessicate in salt water but never mind, this is fantasy and its a really nice piece

Very cool! Where do you come up with these creatures?
One suggestion I would make is to have the stomach pouch be a bit more obviously attached to the
critter - at first it looked like a glowing pearl that it was lying on.
Some parts I particularly like are: the skin - it has a great texture to it,
the eye - it's very convincing and the highlights are nicely done
the glowing tube-thing on the right - I love the translucent effect you got there.
the overall mood of the picture is appealing, too.

Actually, at first it was a glowing pearl that it was lying on, hehe. I'll try to go back and see if I can make it look more attached, thanks.

The use of color (the range of the shades of blue - wow) is brilliant... a perhaps more sunrays would've helped make the water seem more alive...
