Because she's awesome and she deserves it

I have had the sketch of the unicorn in my folder since last summer. I liked the pose, but I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it. Initially I think I meant to draw Kiiy, but just wasn't artistically motivated. I saw Christina's character Nalani a while back and really liked her colors and knew I wanted to draw her at some point. Well, I thought this sketch would be a nice fit. I'm not so thrilled with the grass or the sky...and the scan made it all look more orange than it really is. I tried to lighten it up in Photoshop, but it didn't really do what I wanted it to do. And I'm sorry for the streaks in the sky. I have no idea where they came from. The whole picture just looks better in real life...as they often do.

Aww, I just recently finished a drawing of Nalani myself! She's quite the inspirational mare, isn't she?

I personally like everything about this picture. The streaks add character, and the colors are very vivid and overall pretty. The highlighting and shading are stunning, and I absolutely LOVE that tail! The only thing I see is that her left front draws in too narrow as it reaches the grass.

And she is such a beautiful mare. Her colors are so fantastic and just beg to be drawn. I'm planning on doing a head-shot of her at some point in the near future because I love the colors in her eye and couldn't get them in this one

She still looks amazing, Ashley. I love how the blue and orange come together. As for the streaks in the sky??? It just adds a little more character to the image. The grass looks like a gentle wind is blowing it. May I use her as a wallpaper??

Cloud asked me if I'd draw her for her too haha. I really like this one, the colors look pretty and I don't think the grass looks that bad. I do agree with Dyl about the shadows and stuff.

I'm so glad you love it I really enjoyed drawing her. The first time I saw her colors, I knew that would be a fun color combination to draw

You had to know I woooould I thought the same thing when I saw her, though. Orange isn't even a favorite color of mine...but they go together so well it's amazing. I love seeing her in colored pencil, too. Seriously. I wasn't kidding when I said I wasn't even going to go there. xD Maybe someday never.

Haha, I really don't like orange either, but it looks really nice on her. I think it's the use of the complimentary blue

And you should draw her in colored pencils I think you should challenge yourself And, I think you would do a very nice job

Probably. It has that tequila-sunrise effect. I like the simplicity, too. I have a tendency to try and make my characters too complicated... *sidelong look at Kali* >.>

I might someday! Dunno about a good job, but thanks for saying so ^^ I'm more focused on trying to really get down my shading/anatomy in general right now than using my Prismas. Well. That and coloring traditionally has never been something I'm good at.

Hehe. Those are Nalani's charms. The top one is a sun, the bottom one is a moon. They ended up getting kind of lost in the sky because I drew them so small

I really like this! Though, the colors do seem kind of faded out in places--if that makes sense... and the grass--I see your point. I think what bugs me are the shadows the mountains cast... maybe they ought to be lighter, since they're in the distance?

I dunno. But I do like this, alot. As many have said, even though the colors are off and all, it's still lovely and I'm sure Chris will love it!

I totally agree with you about the shadows from the mountains. I also think they're too big, ya know? They shouldn't extend so far out from the base of the mountains. The way it is, the field doesn't look as expansive as I would like.

And...grass...ugh...remind me never to draw it again

But your grass is usually so lovely! I think this time it just didn't work out. And yeah, what you said about the mountains--it kinda creates two illusions of distance--the first, the nearness with the shadows, but the mountains themselves are colored so as to appear far away... it does kinda throw the picture off a bit.

BUT--still lovely!

Ugh...everyone likes the grass! Haha Grass is the one thing my scanner is good at making look better than it is in real life.

But I do like Nalani's colors. They're so much lighter in real life. But, actually, the scan shows them more like they are really supposed to be on Nalani.

And now I don't like the mountains...too purple And her eye is way too dark too...hmmm...lol. Her tail looks cool though. OK, I need to stop critiquing this and READ so I can say I've gotten some work done today

Oh! Epic-ness! I love it ^^ The colours go together so well, and I really like the effect of the gold-orange with the blue. The background is amazing too You know, I think whatever streaks and colour mix-ups there were got cleaned up when you uploaded to DA, because I'm full-viewing and they aren't there now...

I think this looks great And ye, scanners are preparing for war with every artist...I mean...the complaints doubled lately And did you try to play with hue saturation in Photoshop? To adjust the colors, because when lighting and darkening a picture you might get really nasty stuff that normally doesn't show..like the streaks But all in all I love this picture
