Description
Excuse the bad MSPaint 'cut n paste' together scan.I finally finished this puppy today, in the midst of my mother's orders over my Father's 50th birthday party prep. It's not framed yet; I'm taking it to a professional framer as soon as I can afford it and erase those pencil lines on the fabric (Just bought a $1000 computer). I'm kind of at a loss of what to do now, now that I've finished.
Try guessing my favourite Science Fiction Fandoms. Some are easy, heck one's even labelled, others are more obscure. Have Fun!
All shows and their icons belong to their separate creators respectively. Among them WB, Sy-Fy, Lucas Film, BBC, Universal, Hasbro and Jim Henson. And a few others I can't name off the top of my head. Basically nearly every Film company out there is on here.
This culminates in a year's worth of hard work, so if you're going to cross-post it anywhere, please link back to my dA page and me.

I'm really late to the party here, but I love the tiny X-Files poster! My huge cross stitch project right now is making that poster, but actually somewhat poster sized (it's 288 by 234 stitches). I've only done the UFO and a patch of sky right now.

Wow, that is huge. But I bet it'll look awesome when It's done.

This is really neat, that's a cool idea to put those sci-fi symbols together.
I can guess some but not all of them:
Transformers and Star Trek on the left, not sure about the next row except the TARDIS from Doctor Who next to them then Babylon 5 (guessing rather than know for certain) on the top in the middle, not sure about the one under that but the rest are from Stargate I think. Next row's a Dalek from Doctor Who, one of the robots from Farscape and the Star Wars Galactis Empire and Rebel Alliance symbols. Jurassic Park's obvious, I feel like I should know the one after that but can't think what it is at the moment, not sure about the one under that but then the last one's the poster Mulder has in the X-files.

Wow you did very well! 14/ 20
The ones above the TARDIS are all from Babylon 5(in descending order: Rangers, Psi-corps and Earthforce. I kinda went nuts with the B5) as is the one you thought was B5. Under that one is Battlestar Galactica (it was the hardest one to adapt to such a small spot I might try it again as a bigger stand alone peice and see how it turns out.).
Under JP is the Colonial Marines for Aliens followed by the Dead Meat Tag (DMT) of one Norman Spellman from Avatar.

I watch quite a lot of sci-fi myself so most of those were familiar to me. In fact quite a bit of the cross stitch I've done myself has been stitched with a sci-fi show on in the background.
I've not watched Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactia so that'll be why I didn't get those. I can imagine that the Battlestar Galactica one might look nice done as a larger piece though.
The way you've managed to capture Mulder's poster in such a small space is great by the way, it's really recognisable and you've put in a nice level of detail.

My Dad was heavily interested in Sci-fi/fantasy when he was a kid, so when I came along, I was raised with it (Mum still deplores that to this day, she doesn't get sci-fi XD ).
B5 is the Space Station series that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine should have been. DS9 was great, it's my favourite of the Star Treks shows, but it just doesn't have the presence and storytelling that B5 has. B5 had the first heavy use of CGI in a TV show, and it shows, but if you can find it I recommend it highly. It's a truely great show (which fell afoul of the studio not 'getting' sci-fi like most sci-fi does these days).
Battlestar was great too, the re make, anyhow. I got 3 episodes into the original series and gave up. It was that cheezy - dog covered in baking foil cheezy. And It's rare that I give up on a series, after all I did watch all the original Flash Gordon.
That poster was the only one that appeared on the paper quickly. I didn't have to change things around. Once i'd patterned I couldn't wait to stitch it.

That's cool that you got to grow up with sci-fi. My parents aren't really interested in it but I caught a few shows on TV when I was younger and ended up becoming a big fan of the genre. My husband's a sci-fi fan too which is great because we enjoy watching shows together. We're watching Stargate at the moment, something he didn't catch when it was on originally but I did and, as I saw it was being repeated from the beginning on TV, insisted that he gave it a try.
I've heard of Babylon 5, it's just one of the shows that I never got around to watching. I like DS9 too so I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks for the recommendation.
Battlestar Galactia's the one with the Cylon robots in it isn't it? Again it's a case of not getting around to it rather than not liking it so I might give it a try some time. (Although I suspect that every time I see a Cylon I'll be reminded of the fact that Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory likes making Cylon toast
).
It's interesting how some things age better than others isn't it? I finally got around to watching the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers recently and thought that it was rather good while some newer, similar style movies don't seem to have that classic quality to them for example.
It looks like it'd be a pleasant design to stitch. It's always nice when you make a pattern that you're pleased with and look forward to stitching like that isn't it?

SilverXenomorph In reply to Lil-Samuu [2011-11-03 02:05:33 +0000 UTC]
Yep. Battlestar has the Cylons. The Toast and toaster is an in joke from the series, which I won't ruin just in case you get around to watching it. I almost bought one of those toasters myself, but alas, I'm forced to live with my 'rents and they already have a fully stocked kitchen.
The problem with newer movies and re-make is that they often focus on the SFX and not telling the story, even if the audience knows it back to front.
And it was fun to finally get to stitching it. Especially since I'd had to wage a full scale battle to get some of the patterned in the first place. *looks accusingly at the Imperial Crest and the JP logo*

My nerdyness knows no bounds! I'm pretty sure I reached a zen state doing this. I'd sew for hours at a time ignoring sore bums, arms and legs.
A year later, Voila! Finished Cross stitch.
I just wish there was more room for more Nerdylisciousness than there was.

I do have another Aida prepped, which is for a proper counted cross stitch (Sulfur Crested cockatoos on a fence, I believe, though I've long since lost the thread and pattern) But i think I need to do more drawing for a while. Mum wanted her embroidery thread boxes back XD

[link] <- I have two of these. They're gorgeous and noisy, and the oldest is a touch on the predatory side. They bring all the wild birds in.
Mine aren't usually Zoo birds, (being extremely common here in Aus) but they are prized aviary birds overseas. But I love most parrots, Macaws, cocktoos and so on.

Well if you've got a beak the size of godzilla's toenail bearing down on you, i think you've got reason to be scared.
I've been bitten a ton of times and it's usually because the bird is scared, spooked, over excited, trying to hold on or are annoyed/goaded into doing it. Honey (my eldest)has a bad temper, for which she has no excuse. XD
