Description so here it is.... My first ever full-colour A3 piece.
I was going to announce it with a fanfare and all,
but I have only just got back online and it's been a trying few weeks.
C'est la Vie, everything ends and everything moves onward. kinda like this picture, really.

Two and a half months of working pretty solidly on it, mostly colouring time.
Definately the most epic project i have tried yet.
Drawn with Pigment ink fineliners (0.1mm) prismacolor pencil colours and a whole lot of patience.
I didn't know i had it in me.

Original for sale Β£120

imagine if you got go through a doorway to another world.... what would you see in between?
vortex-like tunnels are all the rage in sci-fi movies,
but on the other hand, the world (and reality in general) has a very specific way of being beautiful,
and rock formations and natural constructions are very randomized articles, albeit with patterns to the chaos.
I actually really enjoyed making this image. feels like the hard work paid off.

ah, then you must be one of those "detail connoisseurs" one hears of
i'm similar i guess, but the photo-realism thing just eludes so i went for a different path
i cant seem to let a drawing be done when its done...
it always strikes me i could add more details afterward and they end up taking almost a year to finish in some cases.

I love this. I love how busy it is. I can never resist paths and doors either!

there is something simply alluring about an open door -
it draws the mind, and the body feels a strong impulse to follow..
im an urban and rural adventurer myself, so i know the call of the open door well!

There is indeed. I have always been fascinated by the idea of a 'hall of doors'. It's my favourite scene in 'Alice in Wonderland'.

I have had a few dreams over the years about never-ending hallways filled with doors - I suspect I am haunted by the amount of apparent options, while most of them being locked to us unless we fulfil certain criteria.

I have always considered dreams to be an extension of one's soul; they are a way of our minds sifting through everything and sorting it all out - so perhaps if you fill your life with more mythos and magic your dreams will reflect this!

I wish that was the case. I've been working on a novel for years and there is a part of it which features very surreal places. Yet even after writing and daydreaming about these places day after day, IΒ rarely dream about them. My subconscious tends to beΒ terribly boring!

perhaps the issue then is whether or not you truly believe in your world.... you may have created it yourself, but to make it real you must truly believe that somewhere it exists maybe then it will become real for you, and you will find yourself there. people like dali and picasso were not special, they just learnt to believe

Excellent! Plus, I'm partial to paths and portals myself.
Β I especially like the fact that the two portals are the same size but different in construction.
You might want to ask for a higher price considering all the time you put into it.

maybe I should ...
but on the other hand, im still just happy to make sales, it seems people are mostly only interested in buying paintings,
and drawings take a back seat, and are classed as secondary art... something pretty but not "official" art... which sucks.
I think perhaps I just need to find the right places to sell.
working with charities is all good and well, but I only find a certain clientele there.
especially in Yorkshire, that means a big difference.

Tolkyes In reply to simonpark81 [2016-08-21 15:50:03 +0000 UTC]

You may be right about drawings not getting as much credibility as paintings, which is unfortunate.
Where I live it's not a big art market, either.
I love the ruins, gardens and scenery of the British Isles where you are, though.
Yorkshire has great scenery.
I would much rather live in Yorkshire than flat, humid, seasonless Florida.

simonpark81 In reply to Tolkyes [2016-08-22 07:07:21 +0000 UTC]

i suppose its a matter of perspective; i love england and yorkshire will always be my home, but i must admit i have always wanted to see florida. i suppose its one of those things; we want what seems impossible but find what we have tiresome.
perhaps i will just get back to oil painting soon and try that out for a year instead, see how it fares for me

Tolkyes In reply to simonpark81 [2016-08-24 03:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Florida in Summer is when it's the most hot and humid of course, but at the same time that's when we have the rainy season. At sunset the rain clouds break up in weird colors and shapes.
Watching 'heat lightning' streak vertically across the sky at night is interesting, too.

I'm originally from Michigan where they have actual seasons. I especially remember the introspective beauty of Winter.

simonpark81 In reply to Tolkyes [2016-08-30 17:34:48 +0000 UTC]

ah, Florida. modern society has mandated this place as the zenith of modern society, a bastion of civilization in a world where things could go either way at the drop of a hat. we could be a society of brilliant scientists or unorthodox, rag-tag gypsies in the blink of an eye.
I have always wanted to visit Florida but realistically i don't think i will. America has a special spot in my Geo-political-anger-zone... growing up with the NHS brings an expectation of how things should be. And that's just the tip of a great iceberg.
Michigan also is a beautiful place i would love to see

meregoddess In reply to simonpark81 [2016-07-20 11:31:55 +0000 UTC]

uh, forgive my ignorance, but....uh..what is A3? Β (relates to size or something doesn't it?)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

simonpark81 In reply to meregoddess [2016-07-20 13:23:15 +0000 UTC]

oh sorry ! of course, its an english thing.
A3 is is double the size of paper i normally use.
so A4 (my usual work size) is about twelve inches along its longest side,
and A3 doubles that.
A2 is double A3.... and A1 is huge. (doubled again)
I grew up thinking every country used this system, but am not surprised they dont.

Most impressive drawing work and concept. I like the idea that we all are interdimensional beeings.
The details at your drawing are just waiting to be discovered by the viewer

I love to create the illusion of choice within art; pathways to follow, ideas to express or challenge-
giving the viewer an almost interactive role within the work, which everyone can choose for themselves.
thank you for the kind words, its so nice to know others appreciate all the hard work!

wow, thank you so much! i love it when people get captured by my world. Yes, i spend forever on each picture, i literally get lost in them sometimes....
what can i say? when its a passion to draw, you dont think or feel beyond trying to make it work.... and then the flow of the piece takes you in tis grasp, and you just follow it until the end
hope you have a wonderful day my friend, and thanks again for the kind words!

thank you so much! i just find that the more time and effort i put in, the better the work turns out
its only in recent years i have started co-ordinating my colour schemes; my earlier work you may notice was much more psychadelic in its colour-schemes that's my girlfriend's influence, telling me to calm down and use colours that work together!
