Description
Standing on the edge of beautiful Lake Beauvert as though poised to defend it from any intruders. Jasper, Alberta, Canada.
Materials used & time spent:
8b and 4b graphite pencils, b and hb .3mm mechanical pencil, a hard charcoal pencil, a kneaded eraser, cotton and tortillons. On letter size paper.
Roughly 13 hours of work.
Progress images:
Photo reference: gigi50.deviantart.com/art/Lac-…
Special thanks to gigi50 for letting me use her stunning photograph as reference.
Please view in full view. Special attention, and therefore greater detail, was given to the roots and the mountains.
Edit: I uploaded a higher resolution image that was taken on Sept. 23, just in case anyone was wondering why the image was taken several days after I submitted it.
Comments are greatly appreciated

Okay... now that I've gotten (somewhat) over my initial rage shock, I shall critique this.
I love the detail on the bark. I had to draw trees earlier this year in my art class and I know just how hard it is to get it right. Same with the trees in the background. My art teacher and you make it look so easy. a.deviantart.net/avatars/c/r/c… " alt=" " title="cryforeverplz"/>
The tiny little details you put in it are really what make this a great piece. You can tell how much time and effort you put into creating it and making it as amazing as it is right now.
The reflections are amazing seeing as how it actually looks like a reflection, which is hard to do because you're replicating something you've already drawn and you're doing it as best you can.
However, the sky is a little bland in places, devoid of details, especially around the tree. I'm guessing you were scared of ruining in the tree because between the branches it is really white.

Thank you for your thoughts. I knew it would be worth it to get your opinion. And you're right about the sky.. it's like my mind blocks out what it thinks isn't important or something. I might go back and try to fix it. Thanks again. Cheers

1. The details are just mind-blowing. I particularly love the tree leaves the ground underneath it.
2. The idea of using a pencil for this is wonderful. Can't say much for my artistic abilities but I would've chosen the same.
3. I LOVE how you drew the reflection. It gives a real sense of water-ness to the picture.
4. I saw the photo - the picture, probably due to the way you drew the skies, looks more autumn-ish. I actually like that it's not EXACTLY the same as the photo.
5. One small thing. The part between the tree and the reflection of the mountains looks a bit more like land rather than water. I'd polish it up a bit.

Thanks! I really appreciate the time you took to give me a valuable point of view. I agree completely about the water, it has always been difficult for me. I think I might try to smooth it out and see if it does anything to make it look more like water. Thanks again.

idk if you did this on purpose, but the tree is kind of surreal in that those 2 roots make it look like it's trying to climb out of the water. I like it!!!!!!
