Description
"Like the last leaf on a dying tree, she shivers in the wind..." -From Sin City.

A dying tree with one last leaf makes a peaceful resting spot for a wandering Motmot.

Drawn on my bedroom wall using charcoal. Took me months because I would only do bits at a time...

on swedish lesson we read a story about two leaves, the last ones on a tree, and we had to write the end of it (after one of them fell down). it's written for little children, so honestly, i didn't really like it, but this picture was very inspiring, it made me much easier to get the feeling of the story.

SimonVelazquezArt In reply to MoonwalkingHorse [2011-09-11 18:35:59 +0000 UTC]

Umm... not sure, whatever the "experts" at my local paper store recommend .. haha Would you have any suggestions??

MoonwalkingHorse In reply to SimonVelazquezArt [2011-09-13 00:58:50 +0000 UTC]

I have nooo idea! That's why I asked you lol! Probably the first thing that comes to mind is matte clear spray paint but something tells me thats gonna become a nasty yellow eventually. Maybe the regular fixative stuff can be used on walls too? but I really have no idea lol.

SimonVelazquezArt In reply to MoonwalkingHorse [2011-09-13 04:09:54 +0000 UTC]

hahaha, yea, I think I'm just gonna try the regular fixative... If it goes terribly wrong I'll be sure to let you know lol

The tree and bird look great. You added a great amount of detail on the tree, which i love and the contrast was wonderful. However the ground needs some work, it appears it was smoothed too much and the roots don't stand out as much as the rest of the tree does. But still this is a great deviation

SimonVelazquezArt In reply to Phoenix27ken [2011-07-24 15:41:28 +0000 UTC]

wow, that's the longest comment I've ever gotten! Thank you so much. And yea I know exactly what you mean, and the reason for it was that I never quite decided what to do with the roots. At one point I was going to have them underground, but slightly visibly with like an x-ray effect. But then a changed my mind.

I love this! I love trees of all kind. You've drawn this one very well and I can't believe you used charcoal. I'd love to have this on my bedroom wall. Great job!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SimonVelazquezArt In reply to Joilieder [2011-07-20 02:24:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! I used a little graphite on the bird, but yeah everything else is charcoal. And you can't really appreciate how big it is either, because in the photo there is no sense of scale, but it's about 5 feet tall.
