Description
Just like in a cruel love story, the tree and the moon are destined to pass by each other every day with no hope of ever meeting. Like the girl you fall hopelessly in love with as you catch a fleeting glance of her hair. She walks away, never to return. The memory remains, but with a deeper sense of mystery; and dreams of what could have been, if only a chance was given.
Sorry about that, just had to get it out... and moving on.
OK, so here it is... There is nothing more I want to do with it. And I'm happy about it.
Materials used & time spent:
Done with 3mm hb and b mechanical pencil, 4b graphite pencil, a small amount of charcoal and tortillons for blending.
All together it took me roughly 10 hours.

Edit (10-28-11): I have added some contrast and detail to the mountains and foreground, and left the natural color for a more neutral tone. Nothing major, but I guess it puts my completion time closer to 13 hours.

Beautiful piece - I love how light and soft the composition is, as well as it is both surreal and realistic at the same time. Great, great job! ;D

I love this! Didn't even think twice before hitting the "favorite" button! It looks like something out of an old textbook. The moon is too big to be real, and yet the way it's drawn makes me feel that it is. Fascinating how your style adds an element of realism to fantasy. Simply breathtaking!

I really love it. It's very beautiful! The tree and moon are perfect. I really love the fence you added in. You know I would've liked to have seen more details but it is a great drawing just as it is. Now, you are going to mail it to me when you get the pencils, right? I'm joking. Hang it up proudly and show it off!

haha Thanks! I think I'm going to have an art show soon, see if I can get anyone to sign up for limited prints. But after that I will probably just give it to my girlfriend or something lol Thanks for the comment, always appreciated

I just finished reading your critique. She put it into words better than I could about wanting more details in the background, especially the mountains. Also, see the different values (colors)in the photograph below the mountains? I'm missing that also.
Your drawing is outstanding - 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. But I know you can make it a 5.999999999999...-star masterpiece and I so wanted to see you go that extra effort. I heard on the radio today a great man talking about perseverence. He was talking about getting out of debt. But then he realized (or maybe he knew)that it could and should apply to all areas of our life and I think that's very true when it comes to us (artists) drawing our pictures. Think how much better my drawings could be if I had persevered and took some more time and didn't rush, especially when I think I see the end coming.
I hope it sounds like I'm encouraging you and not criticizing. I'm just an older lady (part-time artist) who loves seeing young artists thrive. I would love to see you re-visit your drawing and look at it with fresh eyes, with fresh artistic eyes and see what more you could do to the drawing to make it your masterpiece.
(PS And I don't know why I keep talking about pencils with you. Sorry.) And I'm not kidding about having the original. I might even pay for it if the price is right.

Hmm.. well I really appreciate your comments and suggestions.. And I do agree with you, and have actually been thinking about it a lot. I have decided to add some detail and contrast to the background/foreground. I might even add some clouds, but I'm not entirely sold on that yet. I will change the source image to an updated version if I like how it turns out. If you seriously want the original, I would be happy to mail it to wherever you may be. But I guess we'll have to see. Cheers, and thanks!
