Description
Just like in a cruel love story, the tree and the moon are destined to pass by each other every day with no hope of ever meeting. Like the girl you fall hopelessly in love with as you catch a fleeting glance of her hair. She walks away, never to return. The memory remains, but with a deeper sense of mystery; and dreams of what could have been, if only a chance was given.
Sorry about that, just had to get it out... and moving on.
OK, so here it is... There is nothing more I want to do with it. And I'm happy about it.
Materials used & time spent:
Done with 3mm hb and b mechanical pencil, 4b graphite pencil, a small amount of charcoal and tortillons for blending.
All together it took me roughly 10 hours.

Edit (10-28-11): I have added some contrast and detail to the mountains and foreground, and left the natural color for a more neutral tone. Nothing major, but I guess it puts my completion time closer to 13 hours.

The shading on this is exceptional. Very beautiful work here. Maybe if you added a bit of a dark aura around the moon, it would pop out of the sky a little better since it seems to blend a bit. Really wonderful job!

This is fantastic!
The wonder of art, you can draw a realistic picture, and only place focal points that speak to you. It make it look complete, and leave some things for the imagination, like the stars.
Art is about expression, taking what you see and making it speak. I feel realism is a show of skill, but a true artist, give realism life. (If you want a real picture take a photo)
When you look at this picture, you feel the essence of the words you wrote, your art speak to you, and others. The wonder about that is the watcher, take from your picture what they need.
The way the moon is isolated from the rest of the picture, echo the words you wrote, and I feel that by placing star in the sky you wil loose the emotional expression and the essence of this picture.
This is truly a powerful expression of desolation, wanting and Nope for that something we all yearn for.
