Lol, my exact reaction when I saw this painting!
This is amazing! Everything looks beautiful, and what makes it even more amazing to me is that sunsets were always (and still are) hard for me to do, and painted this one so.....*lack of words* I really need to start using reading the thesauras again.
Anyways, what I'm pretty much saying is...this is awesome!

Are you going to the beach to paint or relax? Although any reason is a great one for going to the beach,there's just something about the waves,the sky,the air and walking barefoot in the sand that really appeals to me.I hope you have great weather and thoroughly enjoy your drive to the beach.

I am taking my pastels with me, just incase the weather is good. But I am going mainly to relax and take reference photos. Even though the ocean is beautiful, it is sometimes hard to find the right area with a good composition.

Sounds like a great way to spend the day.That's true it can be hard to find the right area with a good composition especially if it's a lot of just straight ocean and beach.It's easier if there's a lot of variation in the coastline or rocks and driftwood but sometimes even the patterns in the sand left by the tide against the waves coming in can be an interesting composition.It would depend on what you are looking for and sometimes you just come across something that looks just perfect.The lighting,the colors and the scenery all just click and you know that's what you were looking for.I hope you find a lot to to photograph and sketch and if the weather is great a very relaxing time.Enjoy!

I would love to see the yellows and oranges richer and less pastel and neutralized. It would make for a very dramatic sunset.

Thanks for the thought.With darker,richer colors it would make a dramatic painting and I may paint it that way one day,but I wasn't going for dramatic effect with this.I painted it as I saw and felt it.Peaceful, serene, calm.
