Description Locomotive #6 of the Potomac Toothpick Co. The second I've drawn of their locomotives, the first was #4, an exact clone of the 0-4-0T I already have up other than the weathering.

The PTC specializes in toothpics made from exotic woods. They start at $15 each, going up from there. Toothpicks are made by first putting a tree trunk, for example mahogany on a large lathe, and milling it down until all that is left is a very fancy and expensive toothpick. They are also notorious for their lack of maintenance on their locomotives.

Originally supposed to be a modernized version of Atticus W's old time 0-6-0, which it kinda is, but it kinda went its own way. I think it would look more like it if I had kept the huge stack, but it just didn't look right on this loco.

Ya' know, you could probably make an On30 Bash of this using the Bachmann HO 0-6-0T Docksider!

Probably. But I'd rather do the 0-4-0.

The other one I put up. 0-4-0T, I think it says M.P. Inc. or something like that.

The other thing I thought, since you and others love my designs so much, would be if I made some small locomotive design company, for models or whatever. It would run sort of like a place that designs logos or something, like somebody emails me "OK, I need a 0-8-0 saddle tank, similar to this: [picture] but I want a steel cab instead and a straight stack." And I draw one. Or I could combine parts of several real locos that they like or something. I think I could be good at that.

That would certainly work-- there's a market for it, beleive it or not. Be warned, though, I have a very similar site concept in the works, meant to sort of "officialize" work like that that I already do. We might be at our throats for customers!

But would yours be like custom design work, of just more of a gallery of a lot of off-the-shelf designs, that maybe could be adapted or something? Yours I think could be more off-the-shelf since they end up being finished on the computer, so they could be modified on it. Mine would really have to be more custom drawings.

Well, both really! I love doing custom designs for folks (and I've done one or two so far) as well as my own inventions (which is why I'd like to advertise the service). But you're right, we should have our own niches going on, in any case!

Also, hadn't you already been offering custom designs at your Chilcote site?

Or maybe we could start a company for this together.

Nah, I wouldn't want to drag you down! XD You've got a good head start going with your website and all. I'm really still at the concept stage with my whole thing, so who knows if I'll even get off the ground with it (to be honest, most of my projects don't XD). But if it does, we could always affilliate or something, too.

Well, as far as the design part, it isn't started yet. I should add it.

Sort of, but it is just supposed to be pretending to be locomotive models that can be "ordered." I think there would be enough interest for this type of thing to support both of us.

Bahaha, this is brilliant! I really can see this as a modernized version of my engine, still slaving away some sixty to seventy years or more since it was built. Some of those mods are quite imaginative... for example, I love the skinny little unlagged external dry pipe. XD I can just see that as being someone's answer to a broken cylinder saddle somewhere along the line of this engine's career... XD

Cool how the most ornamental bits from the original (wide stack top, long cab roof, cowcatcher, etc.) are all stripped of off this one. So true to life that would be. With industry, it's all about economy effeciency!

Oh, and thanks a bunch for drawing an engine based on one of mine, too!

You're welcome. I really need to do that firebox. I wanted to keep the stack, but with how everything else came out, it just didn't fit in.

Just realized I never colored the firebox! So once I do I will re-upload it.
