Description     Amber is a 24 year-old ex-human standing at 6'1" and 23 lbs.

She was born in Scotland to two brilliant scientists who moved to the United States for a promotion. Access to her parents' research materials, as well as a strong desire to study greatly boosted her grades, attracting the attention of a massive superhero monetizing company. She was hired as an intern, but left to join the US military when she felt that her work was stagnating. After her tour of duty, and completing her studies overseas, she returned to America to find the entire superhero industry corrupt, and on the verge of bankruptcy. She spent months researching and developing superpowers with her parents help until she was finally able to inject her mind into a bio-synthetic putty-like shell. Now, practically immortal and quite powerful, she uses her skills to bring superheroes back to glory.

While she is quite malleable, she can only control about 23 lbs. of her color-changing body matter at a time. Though she may have the strength to pull multi-ton objects towards herself with relative ease, she cannot extend, lift or push, rather only contract and relax. Heat can melt her, but it's not really that big a problem, more so an inconvenience. What is problematic is salt which can dissolve her, and if her nucleus cell touches salt, well let's just say that's game over. She can regenerate, but it requires quite a lot of calories to do so. While considerably weaker than many other stretchy superheroes, she makes up for her weaknesses with unmatched logic and stealth ops experience.

Now she is very introverted and awkward, but jolly, with a bit of a crude sense of humor... Don't let that fool you though, she is in fact an egomaniac with a very short fuse. Don't tell her I said that though. She's a massive nerd, who probably spends way too much time at home playing video games and getting drunk, putting pineapple on pizza, sinful as it may be. Some might say she's a bit too stubborn about well... everything. As cold and uncaring as she may appear, lacking much sympathy or empathy if any at all, she is kind and selfless, putting saving lives as her highest objective.

    Criticism is appreciated.

You know, as much as being a superhero helps her achieve her goal of saving lives, I'd be willing to bet it isn't even the biggest life-saving thing she's done. Doesn't her invention have the potential to make any and all accidental fatalities a thing of the past? I mean it's effectively a vaccine for injuries, right? (And even that's only scratching the surface.)

I'm sure this is a bit beyond the focus of your game's plot, but with a bit more refinement and testing, that'll save enough lives to win her a Nobel Prize, I'm sure. Would really be a shame if she doesn't realize it.

(Yes, I know I said something similar in another comment; I just can't help but think of how terrible a thing that would be to miss out on.)

Her powers originate from her parents' experimental medical adhesive. The procedure Amber used to get her powers required her to transplant her mind into an artificial body made out of a modified version of the adhesive. There are a few notable downsides. She's weak to salt, and she can't bear children, so it wouldn't be something many people would prefer.

Ah okay. Not everyone wants to have children though, and some people can't anyway, so it could be great for them. And I'm sure the salt issue could be fixed with a bit more R&D.

Is there a limit to what she is able to regenerate? minus from her salt attack

SirWhatnot In reply to dragonknight22 [2018-10-25 22:31:39 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much as long as she can come into contact with her old cells, or eat to generate new cells. Any cells that aren't in contact with her will eventually starve and then disintegrate unless frozen. She can reattach them at any time before then. She can't regenerate if the only cell that's left is her 'pilot' cell though.

is her body able to evolve one day to become a strong regenerator?

SirWhatnot In reply to dragonknight22 [2018-10-25 22:48:07 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, she constantly experiments and alters her DNA to give herself new abilities and strengths. Though I want to keep the abilities relatively related to stretching, so no flight or laser vision. I think I'll keep the salt weakness too so that saltwater is always telegraphed as essentially a 'bottomless pit'.

nice. How exactly does she alter her DNA? that's an interesting thing she does.

She has a lab, which would act as the hub area. From there she could conduct experiments on detached mass and utilize the successful mutations on the rest of herself.

so Like, Taffy and Newt Dna could make her 2x stronger?

SirWhatnot In reply to dragonknight22 [2018-10-26 02:59:35 +0000 UTC]

It's entirely possible, but I would like to limit the options to mutations that increase her viable move-set rather than increase her strength.

what do you mean By moveset? like, holding baddies in her via stretching her skin, spiky laso hands?

Probably electrical conductivity to solve electricity based puzzles, stun enemies, and defibrillate injured civilians like in Infamous. Maybe also a double jump, as well as some sort of shape-shift disguise move, but I would have to figure out how to balance that so it's not too OP. Most of the ideas I have so far aren't final, and probably won't be until pretty far into development. I want to make sure they supplement gameplay without overshadowing the primary mechanics, while also allowing the player to complete each level without needing to rely on any of the upgrades.

oh, you think you'll make an upgrade skill chart fer your game? increase durability, stretchynis, regenerate health?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SirWhatnot In reply to dragonknight22 [2018-10-27 19:16:04 +0000 UTC]

I think how I'll handle stat upgrades is with through my shopkeeper character Vi. She'll offer upgrades like stretchyness, discretion, increased coyote time, noise reduction, and a few other stat buffs, but at the cost of level score. Alternatively, I plan to also have a shady shop keeper that offers stat debuffs in exchange for a higher level score.

wow, neat. btw, off topic Video game question, is she bullet proof? also, you have this planned out a lot, yer really cool!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SirWhatnot In reply to dragonknight22 [2018-10-27 20:15:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. She's technically bullet proof, but bullets will cause her to slow down and make a lot of noise colliding in her until they are ejected either by standing still or waiting for them to fall out, similar cases with other status effects; melting, flattened by enemy/hazard, etc. I'm leaning towards not having a health system and instead focusing on the failure conditions being if a hostage was killed, a target escapes, or the enemy alert level gets too high.

wow, does she even feel those? she has a pretty strong body.
I got an idea. What if she had crazy immortality in the game, which causes time to go by, making a higher failure rate, and stuff. oh wait, u doing voice actors too?

SirWhatnot In reply to dragonknight22 [2018-10-27 21:12:13 +0000 UTC]

She does feel, but not most types of pain. The pains she does feel are a lot more numb than humans. Salt and cold are some of the only things that can cause her pain. I do plan on having a time penalty for whenever you get damaged, with the scoring system focusing on time. As far as voice acting goes I do plan to have at least some, probably reduced to grunts and muttering in the gameplay and dialog boxes, but at least fully in the cutscenes and for boss fight telegraphing. I'll have to wait and see what kind of budget I'll be working with and if I can get a publisher before anything can be set in stone though, but I do have some headcanon voices for each character.

neat. if you got discord, I'd be more than happy to be a voice actor if you need one,  maybe a giant monkey XD

I like Amber's overall design. She has a fair amount of strengths and enough weaknesses to ensure she's not a Mary-Sue.

It's not often I come across a balanced OC like her.

So does she have an official I.Q. score?

SirWhatnot In reply to RedKnight33 [2018-08-22 00:41:44 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think about IQ score yet, but she's probably comparable to most mad scientist trope characters.

I also think it's sad that they entire American Superhero Industry was corrupt when she got back.

So does she have an official superheroine name, or is it just Amber since she's like how she is 24/7?

SirWhatnot In reply to RedKnight33 [2018-08-22 01:11:39 +0000 UTC]

While not final yet, I want to wait to reveal her superhero name. I have an idea I like, but I'm probably going to reveal it around the time I'm sure I can copyright it.

RedKnight33 In reply to SirWhatnot [2018-08-22 01:17:24 +0000 UTC]

Copyright it? O_O

You're serious about this, aren't you?

I never worried about such things with any of my own OCs - I just always said in every description "_____ is my OC. Please don't use ____ without my permission." That's all I've ever needed to do.

I asked because I had made my own superheroine OC a while ago, and she may be a bit crazy, but she's always looking out for the good of the people.
