Description I imagine this is a lonely, backwater world in an isolated part of the galaxy. It's got a small ring system and a single tiny moon. There aren't even any other planets in the system.

I did this as a request for someone on Facebook. There's a huge community using the Nations app who RP using their nation as their homeworld. I think about half of them have requested I make them a planet. lol.

This planet isn't actually new. I took one I'd already made (the one I used for Korribanos, in fact) and played with the layers a bit. I like this planet so much, I've actually used it several times, retooling it each time so that it's still unique to the picture.

This is good. But the rings should have specks of noise and then the mode of screen or linear dodge. And stars are great but black spots in between aren't the nice. This is still a good!

Thanks. I've tried adding noise to my rings and I just can't seem to get them looking right.

As for the stars, that's what space looks like. In places where there are dimmer stars, you get what look like blank spots. I've tried the billions of stars everywhere thing and it just looked TOO busy, you know? I mean, I know there are an insane amount of stars in space, but you shouldn't be able to see them all at once. lol.

But out of curiosity, how would you fix this, what you perceive to be a problem?

Try less of the purple color. It is very bright, and 'real space' like you say does have lots of stars, but not colored purple like that. Also try some dusty clouds.

I can never make clouds work so I try to stay away from them. As for the purple, to me it looks like far off dust clouds and gas clouds, perhaps the remnants of a supernova in the area or something. I'll fiddle with it a bit, add some different colors in there. You'll notice the purple bits tend to be in the clusters of stars, which is where you generally find big clouds of dust and gas.

I'd suggest switching the rings to Linear Light or Screen modes...the black is somewhat odd. What star method do you use?

I kinda like the black. Saturn's rings have black layers, too, depending on the angle you're looking at them. But I see what you're saying. I have the hardest time with rings. I like them nice and solid but they never seem to look just right. And when I put them in screen or anything like that, they don't look right, either.

And I've started using soap suds for my stars since I could never make anything else work right. I found some just random pics online of suds and I clone them together to make a nice background then I copy the layer and set the duplicate to overlay (brings out the subtle colors and makes them more obvious) then I fiddle with the levels until it looks like a nice starfield. It's like suds were made to be stars because you don't have to alter them beyond adjusting the levels. They even naturally have that cloudy, nebula-y affect. Cool, huh?
