Description
Despite Grace's size, a year is a long time to stay cooped up on a starship, and when Quinn joined Isabelle's rebels she'd imagined a life of, well, rebellion, whilst the other members had spent that time running small Guerrilla operations against the Empire, the most action Quinn had seen was the odd and uneventful patrol, she was itching to contribute to the team, and she may finally have that chance. The mission sounds simple, meet with a contact on the Nar Shaddaa, and exchange payment for information, not a glamorous job, but if she can pull it off it could finally be the chance she needs to prove herself, what could go wrong?Well, the Force works in mysterious ways, and on the Smugglers' Moon anything can happen, as Quinn awaits her briefing, far far away eyes gaze upwards towards the stars, a young child without a name, resigned to a fate of squalor and starvation, feels something, a ripple through the Force, it's something she cannot understand, a feeling completely alien to her: Hope.

Read A Flower on the Smugglers' Moon -- Starting Here!
Okay this didn't really start out as an alternate cover for A Flower on the Smugglers' Moon, it was really just a doodle that evolved, partly because I wanted to get back in practice of drawing these two for the comic proper. (Next page is almost ready to be scanned!)
I also wanted to play around with designs, mainly giving Quinn a new jacket, and more importantly, a new Blaster. I've wanted to design a new weapon for her, one unique to her, and I wanted to follow the Star Wars tradition of using real guns as a base, for a while I've been stuck, since some of my favourite irl weapons are already Star Wars guns, such as the C96 being the DL-44... Recently though I've really grown to love the design of Mateba firearms, their modernised take on Revolvers, especially the Mateba 2006m, and then it hit me to use that as the base, and everything just fell into place!
As far as lore, its a fairly niche blaster, due to the inverted barrel design (the barrel being on the bottom instead of the top), and the central power pack (being cylindrical, it carries a higher capacity, but far less ubiquitous than standard designs), and slightly more complicated maintenance (using less standardised parts), it saw limited sales during it's production run, overshadowed by competition that utilised far more standardised designs, nevertheless it boasts a few advantages over the competition, the higher capacity power pack allows it to draw more power for each show, giving it a reputation as a heavy-hitting work horse. Given Goldsabers' take-what-we-can-get policy for procuring supplies and weapons, one of these oddities found its way into their armory, and in turn into Quinn's hands, and while initially sceptical about it's odd design, she quickly grew to appreciate it.
Edit: Overall I'm happy with this as a way to play around with the designs, but theres room for improvement, I've still got some rust to knock off, the pose in particular could use work, I was going for kind of a gunslinger pose, cockily flashing her firearm, but the arm is a little too stiff, will bare that in mind in the future, everything you draw is a learning experience after all.
Anyway I hope you all enjoy, look forwards to the next page of A Flower on the Smugglers' Moon over the next day or so, as ever feedback is always appreciated!
