...of all the challenges I've faced nothing has been more difficult, or more rewarding, than raising Orchid.
When I first met her, back on Nar Shaddaa, there was nothing of her, skin and bones, she looked as if a slight breeze would knock her off her feet, so caked in dirt you could barely tell she was blue, her hair was so matted it was easier to just cut it short, and the stench, I don't know how the poor girl coped... What I remember most however, was the feelings of hopelessness and loneliness she exuded, and most of all, the feeling of resignation to her fate, she'd just... Given up... It broke my heart, I couldn't turn my back on her, and leave her to die of starvation, disease, or worse... ~Quinn Shara's memoirs, extract reflecting upon her meeting Orchid, her adoptive daughter.

Sorry art has been slow lately, been busy busy busy, hopefully there'll be plenty of stuff coming soon though!

Anyhow, a little depressing with this one now, of Orchid before she met Quinn, well, back then she didn't really have a name, if anything probably just a number, though I doubt if she'd remember... I did a short comic a looong long time ago of how she met Quinn, and I want to redo it sometime in the future, maybe after Dubious Encounters, bring this story up to date and expand it, after all Quinn got her 'Origin Story' in The First Farewell , it'd be nice to give Orchid her's in full. One thing I'd definitely like to update is Orchid's design during that time, notably her hair, it doesn't really make sense for it to be short back then if she's been living on the streets and in the alleys of Nar Shaddaa, instead it's long and matted, the short-ish, choppy style she's known for is actually Quinn's handiwork.

I've been thinking lately, about how my characters would sound, particularly their manner of speaking, with Quinn it's quite simple, she's Corellian, and although she was raised on Da'hren, the five years prior where she was with her real mother was long enough for her accent to stick, furthermore Da'hren has no native population, and it's a melting pot of Traders and Scavengers, with plenty of Corellians plying their trades... Basically Quinn has the same accent as Han Solo. With Orchid though things are different, when she meets Quinn her Basic is, well... Very basic, she can speak, but she's not very articulate, though with time she learns well, Quinn is a stubborn teacher after all... In terms of how she sounds when she speaks I've always imagined her as having somewhat of a light Latin-American accent... (I think...? I'm not too good at picking up on accents... ), quite like Paz Ortega Andrade from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, she probably has a similar voice too... For the art here I wanted to show that, well, Orchid had a crappy life until she met Quinn...
Here she's trying to scavenge scraps of food from an alley overflowing with garbage, hence the rather harsh title: 'Garbage Flower', poor kid... Anyhow, that's it for now, as ever feedback is always appreciated.
