Description

A long time ago, Contract Rider Ringo was a hero and an idealist; though a fearsome and intimidating warrior, he was nonetheless known as a defender of Elysium, protecting its people from Geister attacks. However, things changed when he discovered the terrible secrets at the heart of the city, which twisted his long-held squeamishment about parahuman development into something reactionary and violent; that day he went rogue, and has spent the past 25 years as a vigilante terrorist. Some consider him a dangerous radical; some consider him an icon; and some consider him an urban legend, believing he's long-dead. ("Ringo Lives" is a popular T-shirt slogan.) Nevertheless, he is very much still active, locked in a constant struggle against the Golgom conspiracy β€”and he's willing to sacrifice anything, even the city and everyone in it, to stop their plans from coming to fruition.

Ringo's transformation driver, part of a series of syringe-gun-like Biorider transformation devices known as "Evolvers", has been heavily modified to double as his main weapon. This "Ringo Evolver" (or "R-Evolver") closely resembles an old west six-shooter; its standard bullets are loaded with a potent neurotoxic venom, while for transformation it instead fires slugs loaded with scorpion DNA and K-stone dust. Thanks to Ringo's flair for the dramatic, he tends to transform by shooting himself in the head. Though in the present the only sound associated with the R-Evolver is a bang followed by the chittering of mandibles, the gun once had a specific transformation callout: "The sun casts long shadows! Feeling Lucky? Ringo in Red!"

While I didn't design Ringo, he's quite obviously sporting a combined scorpion/cowboy motif, through an "early Heisei" design lens. His faceplate is meant to resemble both a bandanna and a scorpion's mandibles. The minor tweaks I made were adding a crack to his eye-lens and a leg holster for his gun. Per the game master RedlineSSB , his name comes from both Johnny Ringo and the Boktai 2 character Ringo (it has nothing to do with apples); the concept of a character shooting himself in the head to transform, of course, comes from Persona 3's Evokers.

The bottom row shows Ringo in his "early style", back from when he was the more idealistic Contract Rider Ringo. The colours are brighter, the metal is shinier and the undersuit is darker, thanks to having not faded over time; his right eye lens lacks the crack that his present-day counterpart's has; and his chest and shoulder armour are a bright red, reflecting his transformation call. His less-ragged poncho is worn over the shoulder to evoke Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and his hat is white to reflect his more idealistic attitude and belief in his own righteousness.

Oh, and his real name is "Johnny Zybourne". I insisted on it.

Ringo was designed by Speed_Freak01 and played by guest player waldville . Templates are by Taiko554 .
