Practising it up. I did this in about four hours (I think) today with no reference. Just working on some more rendering without stocks and whatnot. Hopefully this is a fun one to look at compared to the usual.Comments and critiques would be really helpful!
EDIT: Reupload with some lightening and a border addition.

Very cool painting. Your forest has a dangerous vibe about it -- maybe like the forbidden forest in the harry potter books. Very spooky, gloomy. On first sight I thought there were some skulls just beyond the left side tree and that the treetops were full of spider webs. --shivers--

Haha, spiky rocks, twisted trees. It's just far too fun. Maybe I'll need to do a couple colour and atmosphere studies with this as a base. See if I can get some golden light shining on rich green moss, or a cold, ominous moonlight feel, etc... I'm glad it carries such an impact for you, even in black and white!
