YAY I actually managed to finish it!

Alright, so I did a couple things differently that I had planned, or according to the assignment . I hope it doesn't hurt my grade, but I was NOT going to spend about 50 hours on something and have it look like a checkerboard haha.

Now, the first noticeable thing I did was erase the pencil in his shirt and replace it with charcoal, so "technically" it is still checkerboard, just not as noticeable.

The next thing is, because any place that was going to be black like his clothing would have been a light gray in comparison to the black pen, I used charcoal instead of pencil. So for almost the entire right half of his face (the darker half) I used almost entirely charcoal instead of pencil. I really like how it turned out .

For anybody that hasn't read the description of the WIP-1, here is a little more information about this piece:

I was supposed to draw out a 1" grid on my reference picture and then transfer it to a 2" grid on my 18"x24" drawing pad. The 1" grid is 8"x10", and we had to double it to 16"x20"

The kicker is, I had to tile the drawing with pen and pencil like a checkerboard. So the first row would be pencil, pen, pencil pen ect. and the second would be pen, pencil pen ect. just like a black and white checkerboard (or red and black).

Overall, this piece took roughly 50 hours :die:. It wouldn't have been a problem, if it werent for such a strict deadline. Somehow I managed to get it done though .

The pens I used were standard Prismacolor pens. Sizing were .005, .1, .3, .5, .8, C, and B. I used them all in this, though more then half of this was done with the .005.

I hope my next assignment isn't as big as this...

Oh and just thought I would tell everybody that I am planning on entering the Wacom Dreams contest . I already have an idea in mind, but I'm not going to give away too much details about it. I will say, however, that it is most likely going to be an even bigger project than this, and on top of that it's going to be in color!

My gosh, I don't check this site for like 2 days and I am back up to 120 messages.. >.< damn I can't possibly imagine what it's like for the really popular deviants...
