It was a lovely day in the Traumer house. The sounds of giggling, playing children filled the air as the wynglings got to their day, running around, fighting over toys, the usual commotion.

            It was about to get a whole lot less lovely.

            Verdigris wasn’t one to stomp. He didn’t like to throw fits, he didn’t like to show anyone how he was feeling. He held up the constant smirk that everyone around him was used to, and stayed cool and composed; how were people supposed to take you seriously if you threw a tantrum? But what Farren had told him was beyond composure.

            "They don't have enough money to feed them all, so she cut her own portions- or, w-wouldn't even eat at all sometimes..."

            Stories of children, many more children who had been adopted after he left. Money problems, which they had always had, but which had now escalated to an extreme. Food problems, where the woman was literally starving herself and expected that to be an appropriate condition to raise who knew how many kids?

            It made his blood boil. It made a snarl creep up on his face. It made him absolutely livid.

            April’s babbles took his attention away from the situation for the briefest of moments. He wished he’d had time to find someone to watch her so she didn’t have to see this, but alas.

            “Daddy loves you sunshine.” He says over his shoulder to the baby, “Daddy isn’t mad at you, I promise. I’m gonna give you some toys when we get to… to Grandma’s house, alright?”

            April’s excited babbling rested that little worry in the back of his mind. Perfect timing too, as that was the house right ahead.

            He recognized Egg and his Noc Tingle at least, but the wyngling his was tossing a ball back and forth with was foreign to him. He ignored their stares, walking right up to the door. He didn’t bother knocking and just barged right in, slamming the door against the wall and making a loud bang that startled the wyngrew who happened to be close.

            “Mommy, I’m home.”

            “Verdi?!” Kia was the first to speak, sporting an… odd look, he had to admit. It was the lack of hair that was throwing him off. He’d have to give her grief about it later, if she would even talk to him after all of this. “What are you doing here? And is that a baby?”

            “Where’s Traumer?” Verdigris replied shortly, taking April off of his back and setting her down with a stuffed toy. April seemed much more interested in the crowd that was starting to form around them thought, and he couldn’t blame her.

            Then he heard her. “Verdigris?”

            She looked ghastly, hobbling down the stairs. At some point she grew hair, guess she’d traded with Kia. Wings too, though the feathers looked brittle. But her body, it was practically skeletal. How nobody had noticed was beyond him. He was beginning to guess that Farren had been wrong. The others had to have noticed that she was thin. But nobody was going to tell her. Nobody ever told perfect, lovable, creased Alma’s sheets before treating her to some pie Traumer.

            “Verdi, it is you!” Traumer’s face lit up, clasping her paws excitedly, “You’re finally home! Oh sweetheart, I’ve missed you so much, I’ve been waiting for you for so long! I- Oh, who’s that?”

            Traumer’s eyes landed on April, who looked mildly concerned at the skinny lady smiling down on her. She took a tiny step closer to Verdigris, and his dad instincts began to act up. Back off of my baby, you witch.

            “Is that… Is she your’s?” Traumer’s eyes lit up, “Verdi, you’re a father? Oh my goodness, you really have changed, you’ve stopped being so nasty! What’s her name, can I hold-“

            “Touch her and I will personally rip your wings off and give you a lobotomy with them.”           Verdigris’ vicious tone was enough to halt the step Traumer took closer to him, to his daughter, “She’s mine. Not yours. And if you put your wrinkly dead paws on her then the rest of your hoard is going to get a hell of a lot of life insurance.”

            “Verdi…” Traumer’s smile faded, “What are you-“

            “You really thought I was here for a friendly little visit?” Verdigris’ tail lashed in anger, “And you really thought I was just going to hand you one of the two gros in this world that I genuinely care about after all of the nasty shit I’ve heard about you?”

            “What do you mean?”

            “What do I mean?” He mocked her, “Look at yourself in a mirror. You can barely feed yourself, you’re starving to death. You needed the wall as a second leg, and I swear if you had tripped we wouldn’t be having this conversation at all. You really think that’s any condition to parent a child, let alone… how many of them are you?”

            The green wyngling that Verdigris snapped his gaze to flinched before speaking in a quiet voice. “T-Twenty-one, I think…”

            “Twenty-one. Twenty-fucking-one.” Verdigris’ gaze went back to Traumer, who was starting to tremble. She always did hate being yelled at. Maybe because nobody had ever had the balls to yell at her before. “You took twenty-one children out of a crowded orphanage and away from the prospect of going to good homes where they could have parents who loved them viciously and wholly, and what did you do? Put them back into a crowded orphanage, but without the means to care for them all, and without the prospect of going somewhere better. And how does that make you feel, Mommy dear?”

            “You’re wrong, I love all of my children the-“

            “That green one. When was the last time you asked her how her day was?”

            “Uh-“

            “The purple one over there. When is their birthday?”

            “I’m sure it’s-“

            “That brown one. Have you given them a hug since they were adopted?”

            “Um-“

            “April is a newborn. I know when she was born, her favorite food, her favorite toy, what each and every one of her cries means. I play with her every day, I talk to her and give her the love and attention she deserves.” Verdigris knew his voice was rising, but he couldn’t stop it, “All of the things I know damn good and well you never did for me.”

            Gasps went out and Traumer yelled. “Verdigris!”

            Dash, Maw, whatever his name was, ran up to Traumer’s side and growled at him. “You no be mean to Mama!”

            “Shut up Verdigris, you don’t know what you’re talking about!” Kia snapped and tried to approach him.

            “Quiet!” Verdigris’ voice boomed out of him, making everyone around him flinch and Kia stop and stare at him. He disregarded the weird feeling in his eyes before turning back to Traumer.

            “All you did ever since you picked me up from that orphanage is try to change who I was, and why? So you could have a perfect child that you could push to the side and not think about while you went out and snatched up more children so that you could look like a saint! You never loved us because we were people. You loved us because we were children, and once we got big and stopped being cute, all we become is a source of income so you can replace us with a newer model!”

            Traumer wasn’t even trying to argue anymore, just staring at him with eyes the size of dinner plates as tears cascaded down her hollow cheeks.

            “This is why I left! This is why I despise calling you my mother! This is why everything you did to me is something I swear I will never to my daughter!” Verdigris howled at her, “Because you would have rather hit me when I said something you didn’t like, or throw me into a pen with an animal I was terrified of because you thought it was funny! Because you would rather go out and hoard more children rather than take care of the ones you already have!”

            His voice rose to a final crescendo as he concluded. “You’re a fucking mess! And you don’t deserve a single one of us!”

Is it time for the entire Wyngro community to hate me? By golly, I think it is!

For the record, Warriors, Slate, and I have all discussed this at length. At the rate that Traumer is adopting kids, it's beginning to become really unrealistic, and logically Traumer would be suffering. So I promise that I'm not just doing this to be a prick. Warriors is gonna make the next pic in this little series of plot.

But yeah, Verdi ain't letting this shit slide because he's Verdi, and Verdi don't take guff from anyone. Muahahaha.

Oh and Verdi used some magic I guess.
