Alright, let me explain.
This is a computer generated continental map of some fictional / fractal place that totally does not exist. It's fictional. It's totally made up by random variants and random factors which generate what you see.
-----------------------
So what is this thing?
Here's your answer:
The point of this thing is so you guys can fill in the blanks with names of places / things (whatever) and have fun with it. That's all.
Play risk? Sure, you probably can. Play other games? Make games? You totally can with this thing just by being a little bit creative.
Or you can be creative with it by planning your story based on the continents. Sure, you can totally make up countries and make a little path following the character's trail on his or her journey to find something. It's all up to you.
You have the freedom. I'm not going to yell at your for reusing it somewhere as long as you give me the credit back to me. (Just don't sell it.) Refer to Creative Commons license below for details.
Show me what you made!

Credit my by doing this. Give me a link to: https://skybase.deviantart.com/
Or you can make an icon like this (you type :iconskybase : <--- without the space)

Hi, can I please use this in our fantasy rpg campaign? I can't promise it won't get used in commercial release of our setting book sometimes in the future, but by then it will look totally different. We wouldn't use your picture, just the rough shapes of the land.
It looks really great.

I manipulated the shapes of your map to create a new one. Posted it here .

I discovered a pretty cool method of generating fictional maps; draw out a general outline on a piece of paper, and shade it in roughly. next, instead of scanning it, take a picture of it with a camera that has a large resolution. the open in photoshop and use magic wand to select a rough coast line and voila; the combination of porrly shaded map, blurry photo, and dodgy magic wand results in pretty realistic geographical land masses, waterbodies and borders. Try it sometime^^

Generally anything with perlin-noise like patterns found pretty much anywhere in nature can become a map.
This generator for example uses the basic perlin noise to begin with. It then applies countless other operations to create the outlines, oceans, and the countries themselves.
So its pretty much what you described, only it takes it into the computer graphics realm.
