Yay, dude gem!
(I have my reasons, read on)

1. Fire Ruby in his main form. Reason for him being male is gems are actually genderless, so even though they're generally represented as female, they have the option to be male if they wish. (Head canon or something?)

2. Fire Ruby's spear-trident thing, it's got a really cool gradient...

3. Aqua: "W-Why is-s it s-so c-c-cold h-here?"
Ruby: "You get used to it."

Aqua is new to the the Arctic outpost station, just being shipped in from homeworld. Heh, look at that dork, doesn't even have her fangs (she used to have her hair really long, like going down to the bottom of her back long). Fire Ruby emits heat when he wants to... He just can't be standing on ice when it happens or else he'll melt it.
(Also they'd usually speak Latin, but for both my sake and yours, I'm keeping it English for now)

4. Pyrokinetics! Okay, before anyone questions why a fire wielder is in the arctic, during the time that the gems are on Earth, the gems are trying to get resources which are buried under the ice. He also uses it to start the occasional fire when the furnace burns out.

Okay, I've got one of those "School Colds" when you feel terrible but no one believes you and you're dripping boogers from almost everywhere.
