This is so wonderfully done. The Amber in the Hammer looks so real! Compositionally it works very well with the moon in the background and the pose of the raven.

This is amazing - I love all the detail on the feathers, and the metal and stone!

I need to go read about the actual mythology... I'm kind of fuzzy in that area

I find that the Wikipedia is usually a great place to start:
Mjolnir: [link]
Morrigan: [link]

I doubt you'll find a reference putting these two subjects together. This piece was designed for friends who recently wed. One is a follower of the Morrigan, and the other a follower of Odin (I believe he's of the Asatru faith). The Thor's Hammer (Mjolnir) is representative of Odin, while the raven is a common symbol of the Morrigan.

I hope that helps to get you defuzzed

Thanks!

Yes, it would be uncommon to find the two together...
Right after seeing this picture, actually, I went directly to Wikipedia! A good way to answer all questions.. I have a friend who is rather obsessed with Norse mythology, and seeing the Mjolnir in your picture reminded me that it was high time that I try to better understand the things he's been talking to me about! This led to several hours spent browsing many pages on Wikipedia

I strive for improvement with each piece these days, especially since they're few and far between. Just keep this hush-hush from Stacy & Tazz just a month longer...

Don't worry...lol. Never heard of Tazz and haven't seen Stacey in at least a year... *sigh* I don't get out much any more.

She moved to Houston, so I haven't seen her in nearly 2 years. Don't feel bad.

Bird feathers are hard; you've done a remarkable job! Love the composition and color; well done indeed! Your soaps are great, too

I keep trying to challeng myself with new textures and ideas, so I'm considering this to be a success. I've been stuck on human portraits and figures for far too long.
I appreciate the comment on the soaps too!

Wow... you've gotten the feather textures and colors spot on! Excellent work!

Glad I could provide some small help... the raven just wasn't having any of that "get in the nice FedEx box and go to Texas!" stuff...
