My Entry for Autumn123Charlotte 's Contest, if you'd be interested in joining, please check it out here: [CONTEST] TF HUMAN-KNIGHT AU I took a lot of inspiration from Byzantine crusader uniforms, and the Joan of Arc. I was very against making her armor Pink, so I went with a RoseGold instead. Since she's got a human version of herself, I wanted to give her a unique name to compliment the design. My main objective was to create a design that could stand on its own, without needing the context of her Transformers design. I've decided to name her Helaine , it's traditional name of the french 14th century, which is the culture and era she is primarily based in. It's got some of the letters in her original name and fits her very stoic, puritan personality. ---

Thank you very much! During the design process, my friend saki-noir mentioned that heals would look too French, and way before the era that I'm basing her off of. I'm going off the 12-13th century style of medieval dress. With some fantasy elements included.

I think it might have just not suited her - as I imagine her more of serious type of a warrior and pink tends to have a bit lighter feel to it

This turned out phenomenal and even after having gotten to see the process I'm still blown away with the end result.
I love how much movement you were able to capture in the pose, particularly with the flowing cape and tunic. Her hair seems a bit still by comparison, but I hesitate to say give her hair more movement since I'd be concerned that would make the piece too busy with movement.
I also love the texture you added to the armor, it really looks amazing, but it's a bit jarring when you look closely since nothing else on Highwire seems to have texture? This is just my personal preference, but I like using brushes to add subtle texture to skin, hair, and clothing. I know there are some nifty cross-hatched brushed in Clip Studio that I thought worked really well to add a subtle fabric texture. For skin I usually looks for a mixture of blotchy and speckled looking brushes (if that makes any sense) to add a little imperfection and variety to the skin.
I really do love the background you put together, it gives a mystical "walking out of a story-book" sort of feel which I think worked perfectly for a knight character. Her shoes are almost the same hue as the background though, so just watch out for that since they sort of disappear if you squint at the piece.
Over all, I still love this piece and I think this is one of the most detailed pieces you've done lately and I am so impressed with your work.
I wish you the best of luck in the contest! I do hope you'll re-visit this design for Highwire though, she makes a fantastic knight. c:

I regret a lot of decisions I made with her texturing in general, but I'll fix it up next time I draw. I'm really glad you liked it, and I can't wait to see yours finished!

It was a learning experience, and in the end I don't think it was a bad decision to add the texture but maybe it needed to be a little less opaque or else bring in more noticeable texture in other parts of the piece?
I feel like I give you bad feedback though, since I'll catch things later when you post your pieces I didn't initially notice when you shared them with me. DX
