Description
Forty hour work days can make your own workplace feel more like your home than anywhere else. I like it that way, it lets me stay away from it all, when I leave, I don't even recognize the world around me anymore...It's bright.---
Just wanted to do a quick study with Highwire in a brighter environment than what I normally portray her in. I'm going to be a lot of backstory work with her very soon because I want to practice some story boarding and so on.

Oh absolutely. Highwire as a character is the kind of person who secludes herself in absolute silence for hours to complete her work. And even if she looks the part, inside she no longer knows what to do outside of just working.

Lots of practice and studying. Getting critique is really important too.

It takes many years to work up a skill, but if you work hard, get good honest feedback about your work and study and practice hard you can do it.

Oh! Lovely!
It's nice to see Highwire again, I still adore her design and the character over all. Great job on the lighting, I'm loving how stark the contrasting shadows are on her body as well as in the background with the sky versus the pitch black doorway behind her. The doorway frames her silhouette nicely, though the top and side of her head does start to get lost as it is the same value as the building behind her and the pink of the inner part of the door way is very nearly the same shade/value of pink as her. However, since her face is still lighter in value her figure isn't lost. Something to do to make sure your values don't end up too similar (if you don't do this already) is to look at the piece on a gray scale. Save your progress, flatten the image, and de-saturate the picture. Step back, squint, see if the character is still readable. (Just don't forget to un-do the flattening before you go back to the piece, don't want to lose your layer while you're drawing!)

I actually did not realize how close the values were, normally I double check in the way you mentioned (the istebrak method, well done) but you're right I'll double check and make sure the values are less close next time. Thank you for your input I really appreciate it!
