I finally got her right. I've had this character for almost four years and I finally got her right!

I both love and hate my new sketch pad. It's so cheep that it won't hold pencil. I do a sketch, put it away for a few minutes to work on something else and when I get the pad out again, the lines have been smeared half way across the page. Hence why I hate it.

But it is forceing me to actually finish the things I draw. I can only work in pen and pencil because the image erods so fast but it means I've completed every sketch I've done in this pad so far. So I love it for upping my out put.

This is possibly one of my best images in terms of fire and motion. The black lines are an experiment in shading. They didn't work out quite right so I'll work on that. But this is the design of Epona Sterson, my Sonic character, to a tea.

But once you get past her unwelcoming attitude of a first meeting you’ll find someone who would like to have some fun before kicking back for a nap. She is rather lazy when the mood suits her but can be incredibly destructive too.

Deep down she is extremely insecure and flighty. Left alone she can break down in tears before a few hours have past. She longs for a solid companion who won’t be driven off by her eccentric side or her need to be free. Finding that person has turned out to be a life long quest. But this hasn’t put her off, a staunch romantic at heart she believes (though she tells no one) that one day she’ll find that someone, then gets upset because she’s being sappy in her opinion

Epona loves the thought of adventure and will happily go along if it means the chance of some fun and excitement although her lack of common sense once she gets excited often leads her into trouble. But that doesn’t matter to her as she’s prepared to get herself out in one piece rather than drag others into it.
If she causes a problem, Epona will be the first one to say what’s she’s done wrong and that she is wrong. She doesn’t get this right very often and can be way too hard on herself but Epona has standards and one of them is to try not to get others into trouble. A character of partly ill repute but one that’s loyal to a just cause or someone she likes.

Her last line of attack or defence is the explosives she carries. She hates using them if she can help it and they aren’t easily set off but once they do go off, they GO! They also have a nasty habit of setting things on fire which is Epona’s favourite form of weapon. She will then use a fire wall to escape making her slippy to catch.
Her skills as a rally driver come from getting her truck away from pursuers. She can be fearless when driving.

She usually dodges as best she can and gets to cover, bearing in mind how fast she can run when pressed she’s not the easiest target to hit which is usually her savoir. Her other weakness is analyzing her opponents weak points, she can get it so badly wrong its amazing she’s still alive. She is no good with guns as they frighten her (probably for a good reason) and depends heavily on power rather than strategy.

Through some clerical mishap she was sent to the wrong place and got separated from the rest of her friends. The place she wound up in was an old ugly building, that should have been torn down some time ago, for problem kids.
Bullied because she was white, Epona was regularly punished for demonstrating her mastery of Capoera to the other students when they went too far. She made no friends and this was where her insecurity began to take hold. No one came for her and Epona believed something was wrong back home but was prevented from leaving. She viewed the place as a prison and still believes she would be stuck there if it wasn’t thanks to the fact that the old (and poorly built) building caught fire one night.
No one was hurt but the building went down and the owner’s fortune with it.
It was on this night that Epona’s love of fire appeared and grew. To her tired and rather fed up eyes, the fire had not only set her free but punished those who had made her life a misery. The sight of the place that had been her cell for so long being turned into a smouldering pile of rubble in less than a few hours also taught her a healthy respect for how much damage fire can cause.
She escaped in the confusion and made for the nearest town. Being tall for her age, she got a job before she should have and used her wages to buy supplies, a map, tough walking boots and a long coat to keep her warm. Then she set off intending to walk most of the way home.
She managed it but when she got there her home was abandoned. There was no sign of her family or any fighting. No clue as to where they had gone. The only things she had left were the earring and necklace with her tribes’ markings on them.
So she got fresh supplies, a back pack, got her boots shod with metal and set off to find her family. Problem is, no one hides like a hare does when it’s scared and Epona has been searching for three years at least without success.

While wondering Epona built up a reputation as a trouble maker for flooring anyone who called her Bunny or setting fire to any building that she REALLY didn’t like. Several of which were concrete so it’s anyone’s guess how she managed it. All were abandoned or for storage and the land was snapped up quickly after the fire had been put out which actually helped in many ways.
This earned her a place on wanted posters and the evening news. She is now registered as an extremely dangerous arsonist but she has never hurt anyone during these fires. Even putting herself in danger to rescue those who get caught in the fires even if she didn’t set them off.
This is where Epona becomes a little strange. It seems like she’s prepared to work for slime and the good guys. No one is really sure whose side she’s on. Most believe that it’s her way of surviving. Her past has meant that to stay alive and out of big trouble that she doesn’t have a lot of choice.
Epona is also quite wealthy, no one knows how and she’s not saying. Though from the way she lives, which is mainly on the move and sleeping rough, you wouldn’t guess it. Her truck which she uses to loot places that she burns (she gives a lot of it back) only ever appears when she needs it. How she moves around so much on foot yet still has the same truck in each town has everyone puzzled. When asked, Epona shrugs and replies “It’s a truck. You drive it. It’s not that hard to have it moved around.”
